Honey was originally fostered at Chip 05-042's house. Chip had to have unexpected hip surgery which involves 8 weeks of limited mobility, so Honey has come to our home for foster care. Honey gets along fabulously with the three resident dogs here, is curious to discover the cat, but easily redirected, and she has uncrated free roam of the house during the work day (9 hours maximum). Honey entertains herself with doggie toys, interacting with the other dogs, and redesigning stuffed animals while home without us. She adores the thrift store stuffed animals purchased for the purpose of being played with, and de-stuffed! I don't believe that at this point in her life she would recognize the difference between a child's stuffed toy, and one intended for her!
Honey is very sharing and equity oriented. She doesn't have to be first to be petted, first out the door, or first to receive a treat. She is very mild mannered, and of a gentle disposition. In meeting a dog who wasn't feeling very friendly yesterday, I was able to observe that when grouched at, she can stand up for herself with verbal and body language cues IE without feeling she has to respond physically. This is a very good quality! Honey also had her first puppy play date while with me this week, and she loved it! She and 14 month old Maddie romped and frolicked, having a wonderful time! My resident dogs are ages 7 - 12, so the play style is not quite the same as having someone closer to her own age to cut loose with!
I've also learned this past week while getting her micro-chipped that she has a deep fear of individuals wearing white lab coats and a stethoscope. She wasn't fearful of the clinic, or the vet tech, or of the Vet once she had taken the lab coat off... but she was heartbreakingly fearful of the Vet when the white coat was on. It will be a great service to Honey to commit to lab coat-free vet care in the future.
