Gracie 06-457

Profile

10/8/06: Gracie and Cleo are 14 week old golden mix puppies who are as cute as they come. Cleo weighs 11.2 pounds and Gracie weighs 14.6 pounds. Cleo makes up for her smaller size with attitude, she is the "tough girl" who runs out to meet people and barks at the resident dogs. Of course, she is also the first one to run back and hide between your legs when the resident dogs actually try to play with them. Gracie prefers to hang back and observe for a bit before jumping into the mix. Both girls love to be picked up and snuggled.

Cleo moved on to a new foster home on Monday night. Gracie wasn't sure what to think about life as an independent pup, but she has adjusted quickly. She is such an easy puppy to have around. She is very mellow and does not do the normal puppy biting when we are playing. She also does very well picking appropriate chew toys. She adores praise and snuggling and will do just about anything to get you to give her a little bit of loving. However she does come up with her own ways to be mischevious...

We usually baby gate our puppy fosters into a small area while we are at work so that they have a little more room and we can work on building up their confidence with being crated in small increments -- but apparently this arrangement gets a big 2 paws down from Gracie! Both Tuesday and Wednesday (with 2 baby gates in her way) she greeted me at the door when I got home. For a puppy with a few hours to kill she was very well behaved and did not destroy anything. I can only imagine what Bishop and Charlie 06-276 had running through their head as they are crated and the PUPPY is out entertaining herself. Soooooo -- Gracie is now crated when we are gone.

Gracie loves the crates when we are home. She likes to eat in the crate (which helps to keep her focused on the task at hand) and she will nap in a crate if the door is left open. She also runs to the crate to observe the activities when she is unsure about a new experience. She loves the crate -- until the door closes, then it also gets a big 2 paws down from Gracie. It's a work in progress and we continue to show her that crates are good, safe places whether the door is open or not.

Housetraining is going very well and we have not had any accidents in the past 4 days (knock on wood!). At night we let Gracie sleep in bed with us and she snoozes like a champ. We get up once a night to go outside, but otherwise she is a great little sleeper.

This week, Gracie's foster parents are celebrating a wedding anniversary and foster aunt Sarah thought that it would be funny to send them a baby onesie (wink, wink; nudge, nudge). So we did the only thing we could in the situation and dressed up our "baby"? Gracie says, "GO BLUE!"

Go Blue! This is how Gracie perfers to eat.
