Koda 06-463

Profile

10/17/06: Koda has arrived safe and sound from the South Dakota border and I would best describe him as a Triple B - Big, Beautiful Boy! He is hardly ever without a stuffed animal in his mouth and a wiggling tail and rear end. He loves to follow you no matter where you go, including the bathroom. He is very sweet and loves attention. The best guess on Koda's age is 2 1/2 - he was originally found by the side of the road by a couple traveling in an RV. They soon discovered that he has hip dysplasia in both hips and he was left with a wonderful woman who was able to raise enough money to have a total hip replacement done on his right hip.

When I say the Koda is a big boy, I mean it - yesterday at the vet's he weighed in at a whopping 110 pounds! All of his blood work has come back normal, so no problems with his thyroid and he is now up to date on his shots. Koda needs to lose some serious weight and not just for the typical health reasons. The extra weight he is carrying is not good for his hips and we are hoping that with weight loss, a proper exercise program and glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate supplements he will not need to have surgery on his other hip. Currently he appears to be without pain and has followed me up and down the basement stairs without any problems. He also lays like a puppy with both legs out behind him (frog style) and it is amazing how quickly he can get up from that position and across the room when he sees a toy he wants. So far Koda has not interacted with the two resident Goldens - he does not appear to be interested in playing with them. He will, however, steal toys from them.

It was decided that Koda can be adopted out at this time with the understanding that his new home will help him to lose weight and get the proper exercise he needs. As stated earlier he is not having any pain and certainly gets around well and therefore there are no plans for surgery for his left hip. Quite often dogs have bad hips on ex-ray, but no pain. We don't put them through surgery unless there is lameness or obvious pain. Seriously reducing his weight and building up his exercise tolerance and muscles should make a big difference in this sweet boy's quality of life. He's a Big, Beautiful Boy, with a great personality who you would love to meet, and he would love to meet you!

My Koda has found a wonderful home! He has been adopted by the "L" family. He will now have a wonderful mom and dad and his new mom will be home with him during the day and they said he will get two walks a day!! I knew it was a match made in heaven when they first met. Koda will also have two human siblings who are away at college, but are very excited to have him to come home to.

To Koda's mom who made the very difficult decision to surrender Koda: He was a joy and brings joy to everyone he meets. He will have an absolutely wonderful new life and will get all of the attention, love and toys he deserves. They also say that they will let him pick out movies and cuddle on the couch whenever he wants :)

I will miss Koda so much! As his new family works with his weight loss, I am hoping that they will update me and I will update you all! While Koda was with RAGOM, he lost 6 lbs! Keep it up Koda!

Koda is so sweet and easy to have around--I am leery to ever give him up! He is so happy and just loves people so much. Every day when we take our walks if we see humans, he simply must go up and greet them. He gets especially excited when he sees kids. I think he must have had some wonderful kids in his previous life because he absolutely loves them. On Halloween night, he was my candy ambassador and happily greeted all of the trick or treaters as they came to the door.

This morning we got up early and headed to the Elm Creek dog park. Elm Creek is a wonderful dog park as it has a trail that is almost 1 mile around. Because Koda is a foster, he had to stay on leash the whole time, but he had so much fun greeting the people and smelling all of the smells--and he did such a great job and made it 1.5 times around the park. He is doing well with his weight loss. He has such great energy and is so enthusiastic. I can't wait to weigh him to see how much he has lost!

Koda has free run of the house when I am gone and doesn't have accidents or get into anything. He reportedly gets along great with cats; however I do not have any to test him. Koda would also do well with obedience class. He is very well-behaved and he never barks; however, he pulls on the leash and hasn't quite mastered recall. If you think Koda might be the right love match for you, contact Placement and I may be willing to let him go--it will be so hard though. :)

Koda and one of his many stuffed animals.....

Koda, aka the 'Wiggler', has joined Nala and Sue and is proving to be a wonderful house guest. He is always wagging his tail and when he wags his tail his whole body wiggles!! He is easy going and he loves his toys. He is always carrying a stuffed animal or ball in his mouth and it is very cute! He is the typical Velcro dog and he just wants so much to have a new family to call his own - a family that will love him, give him pets, and let him have his toys. Koda is a big boy, so we are working on getting his weight down. We went on a walk last night and he did very well and he made it 1.2 miles! He hasn't eaten much yet, but I believe it is because he is adjusting to his new surroundings. If you would love to meet this wonderful, lovable boy, please email placementatragom [dot] org.

Wanna play????
