Taffy 05-095

Profile

Taffy is an adorable young, petite girl that comes to us from a puppy mill. Somehow her Golden Retriever mom managed to find herself a boyfriend that wasn't a Golden Retriever -- to the chagrin of the puppy mill owner. (Sort of surprising since they are never allowed out of their kennel runs.) Taffy was born October 4, 2004, the only puppy that survived from a litter of six. She is petite for being 5 months old and I would have guessed her at 3 months from her size, so I would think that she won't get to be real big. She seems healthy and will be visiting the vet soon for a checkup. She loves my three dogs and Buddy (05-075), her tail wags and she prances around them wanting to play. The owner did say that she has been in with other dogs so did get puppy socialization and playtime. However, she didn't get people socialization (having lived in a kennel run) and is very timid of humans. She is a very, very sweet puppy that just needs to learn that people were put on earth to give her pleasure, pets and treats. Right now she won't take treats (not even meatloaf -- perhaps she doesn't like my husband's cooking), but once she relaxes a little and learns to trust us, we'll start the process of spoiling her as much as possible so she learns what a dog's life is supposed to be like. Her forever family will want to take her everywhere with them so she gets to see the world and learn that people are good, not scary. If you want to have the opportunity to really make a difference in a puppy's life and show her the world, watch her overcome her shyness and help her blossom into the wonderful adult dog she can become, you will want to meet Taffy (besides the fact that she is sooooo cute).

Taffy has really turned the corner. She is so happy to see you in the morning. We went for more trips to PetCo and PetsMart this weekend, plus a couple of short walks and she is doing so much better. She continues to need work on her housetraining, but does settle in a kennel just fine. She is ready to find the lucky family that will love her forever. She met one of our volunteer’s adorable little 17 month old daughter, Emily, yesterday. Emily picked up Taffy’s leash and walked her around the backyard, Taffy gently following. As you can see by the pictures, Taffy continues to be the gentlest of all souls.

Her forever home will ideally have another dog that enjoys her puppy antics and a fenced in yard.
