Happy New Year!
We are a little late on getting an update written up on "The" Daniel. He is doing so much better, it is amazing to watch his progress. Daniel is a bit camera shy, so it's a little difficult to get some recent pictures of him. Daniel had his stitches out on the 20th of December. He did great at the vet's office. They also removed a couple of floating bone fragments. They looked very painful. His leg amputation has healed up wonderfully. He runs and plays like a "normal" dog. He is up to 39 pounds! He does love to eat. Foster mom spoils him with burger on his food, Missing Link, Acidophilus, (because of all the antibiotics), flax oil, and lots of love! Daniel is finished with his medications and all up to date and healthy! He did not enjoy his bath, but looks & smells so much nicer. He looks like a Golden Teddy Bear.
On Christmas morning we woke up to Daniel's kennel full of toys. I don't know if he put them in there, or one of the other dogs, or Santa Clause! It was very cute. He is actually playing with toys on occasion. That's a big step! He also will instigate playing with the other dogs.
We are still working on the socialization of humans with Daniel. He is coming around, but he needs a family to work with him. He is a scared little boy. I think Daniel would need to have another dog around. That's what he knows and he is more comfortable with a canine than a human being. He has great potential to be your buddy. He is so sweet and very, very, cute! Even though Daniel has been one of my most challenging foster dogs, due to his "people" issues & being a ferrel dog, he also has been one of the most easy foster dogs. He "goes with the flow" and is so mellow.
Daniel is pretty pooped tonight. He is actually snoring right now! He spent the weekend at a fellow foster home. Daniel has no problem keeping up with the activity of his buddies. I also got word that Daniel barked! That was a surprise because he has not barked here (close, but not quite). When I picked Daniel up, he actually walked to the car on leash & Gentle Leader and jumped in. Another big step! I am so proud of him.
The time has come to find Daniel his forever home. He needs a family with patience. He's not going to be your walking companion, YET. He's just learning about a leash and walks and car rides. We would like him to have a fenced in yard. And another canine companion to show him the ropes. He is fine with cats, too.
