Fred (Trevor 05-104)

Profile

Trevor arrived at his foster home in Ankeny, IA on Sunday, April 03. He is an approximately 9 week old purebred male Golden Retriever. He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be visiting the vet in Ankeny this coming Friday.

Trevor was surrendered to RAGOM by an Iowa breeder who had difficulty placing Trevor because of his smaller size and slight injury to his tail. Trevor may be small but he is very courageous - especially going up and down the steep stairs. He is very confident around people and other dogs. He is very active and very cute. His coat has a little bit of curl as you can see in the pictures. Trevor is working on housebreaking and crate training and manners so that he will be more than ready for adoption!

His schedule is early to rise and early to bed. He gets up between 4:30 am - 5 am with his foster mom. Eats breakfast. Then he goes back to the crate around 7:30 am after a hard morning of playing, because unfortunately his foster mom needs to go to work. Then his foster dad gets him out of the crate around 3:30 pm in the afternoon. His bedtime is between 8:30 pm and 9 pm.

Trevor Fred continues to grow! He is two inches taller than Willie and weighed 76 lbs at the vet's on Friday 3-24. He is friendly to everyone in typical GR fashion. His greatest joy is to lie down on 1/2 of the loveseat with Willie, both of them crammed onto one cushion with the footrest up...when he shifts his weight the footrest goes down and he slides off to the floor often still asleep. He is a character. Last night one of them decided he liked Hot Cross buns and snarfed down 8 of them before we noticed the container on the floor. Freddie and I are blaming Willie, as Freddie and I were in the den relaxing and Mac was "watching" Willie upstairs....neither one has counter surfed for quite a while so we had relaxed our guard. Not a wise thing to do with retrievers. Have you read that new book Marley and Me ? Highly recommend it to you two dog lovers.

Keep up your good work....will check in from time to time. Oh, loved your Christmas card...thanks for thinking of us. Sandy. PS. Fred also likes eggs, raw that is, our cockatiel lays eggs and the dog sticks his big ol' head in the cage and eats the eggs, terrifying the birds in the process. Life is NEVER dull in our house !

Brandon & Regina:

Looks like you are fostering another dog in need. Blessings upon you for your work. Most of the images are of Fred sitting on the dog bed, but I can assure you he is most active throughout the day.

Fred and his buddy Willy went hunting this weekend at my farm, along with a splendid 7 year old Springer. We flushed a few woodcock and grouse but never had any luck bagging them as there so few birds this year. Fred did, by mistake, flush a grouse when he was about 4 months old, which frightened him but aroused some bird sense. Fred just plays tag-a-long with the older and more experienced dogs, and he is gaining knowledge as he does this.

As you described, he has a playful manner and does speak when he thinks appropriate.

Regina,

No doubt about Freddy fitting in with the others.

Regina & Brandon:

Our grandson's 4 year old friend, May, thought that "Freddy" should be the puppy's name and that seems like it will stick. Our dogs have had call names that ended in "y" so Freddy seems to fit with Willy and Juddy. The first picture shows our old dog, Juddy, with the puppy next to him.

At our vet visit on Thursday, Freddy weighed 19.5 lbs. which the vet described as a "tad" small but nothing to be concerned about, as his bones are well-formed.

Cheers,

Mac & Sandy

Trevor is really growing! His favorite thing to do is play with my 2 Goldens. He also enjoys car rides and trips to the pet store.

The weather here in Ankeny today is rainy but it doesn't keep Trevor from smiling and having a great day anyhow.

Housebreaking with Trevor is improving. And crate training is going good also.

More updates to come!

We have had a very busy week with Trevor. Unfortunately, he is not much for napping. He is a puppy on the go - enjoying life with an extreme desire to be in the midst of the action and play with my other Goldens. Trevor is so young that he is easily distracted and sometimes it's hard for him to even finish eatin,g as he has so much to do!!!!

Trevor likes to explore only if you are going also. He does not really wander from his foster family - outside or inside.

Trevor likes to ride in the car. He is completely comfortable with the automobile and enjoys looking out the window as we move down the road.

He was around some children last night and other new adults. He was only hesitant for a second - and then warmed up to everyone. For families with cats, I am unsure how Trevor would react, but given the fact he is young, I think he would be fine with exposure.

Trevor went to the vet on Friday night. Of course, he got lots of attention as he is so very adorable. The vet gave him a clean bill of health and he will be due for some additional vaccinations around the middle of the month. It appears that Trevor's tail is fine after his injury - other than cosmetically missing some hair on the tip which the doctor said would never grow back. The vet thought Trevor's coat was quite unique. He has quite a bit of curl and wave.

Trevor eats Iams puppy food and also enjoy Iams puppy biscuits. He quickly learned the command to sit for a treat. He also enjoyed a bread stick from Pizza Hut this week.

Housebreaking is going fair - fewer accidents in the latter part of the week than the beginning. Crate Training is going good.

Overall, Trevor is a good little guy just looking for some love and to be adopted.
