Marley 06-053

Profile

2/11/06: Marley is a beautiful blonde 10 month old male Golden with the most expressive eyes I have ever seen. He came to RAGOM as an owner surrender, because his family moved.

Marley is fostered in Rapid City, SD and is now current on all vaccinations, is heartworm and fecal negative and on heartworm prevention. He weighed 58 lbs. yesterday and is scheduled for his neuter surgery on Monday, February 13th. After recovering, he should be ready to meet his forever family.

Marley's paperwork said that he was an outdoor dog, who lived in a yard and slept in a dog house. Well - he is a RAGOM dog now and his days spent outside, sleeping in a dog house are over.

He had a bath (first thing yesterday), met all four resident dogs and he behaved beautifully for both. He doesn't seem to know a lot of commands, and has tried to do a little counter surfing, but other than that we think living in a house suits him well. He pulls hard on a leash with a flat collar so he met the Gentle Leader for the first time this morning. Although he wasn't thrilled, he sat very still to be fitted with it and did very well for a newbie on our walk. We will continue to work with his manners and polite leash walking while he is here with us.

Marley has no guarding issues over toys or food whatsoever and has had NO accidents. He does his potty duties when he goes outside with our pack. He seems to really enjoy romping in the snow in our fenced yard too - but is very happy to be invited back inside. He is a little intimidated when it comes to toys and playing, but has loosened up a lot in the last day with our dogs. We just go about our routine and he seems to enjoy following us or the dogs, which we think is a good sign. He sleeps in our bedroom on a dog bed on the floor and doesn't make a peep all night. He is very relaxed and well behaved for a young dog - loves to be near, and petted. Marley appears to be the typical Golden - if you set them up to succeed, they will make you proud every time! He will make a wonderful companion for almost any person or family.

Marley's (06-053) is happy and settled into his new family and they just love him to pieces. He really loves his new fur brother, Chester, and as you'll see by the one picture, loves to be 'near' big brother Chester. Aren't they a striking pair?

Well - it's official - Marley ISN'T perfect, but he's pretty darned close. He did his first naughty deed since coming to our home. In his defense, it wasn't totally his fault, so I'll explain. Marley was enjoying his nylabone under the kitchen table while we were having lunch the other day. Marley was serenading us with the methodical crunch and scrape of his task. Well - after a few minutes, it seemed that sound was a bit too rhythmic and much too solid. So - I looked under the table and what to my wondering eyes did I find..........Marley whittling away on the leg of the chair. Okay, I know it sounds rather awful, but it's not that bad - a little sand paper and paint and it will be good as new! The reason I say it wasn't his fault, is that right next to the chair leg was the nylabone - wedged between his front paw and the leg, so I would like to think he didn’t realize he was chewing on the chair leg. When I squealed at him - he immediately ran from under the table, so I doubt he will be going under that table for awhile.

Life and times with Marley continues to be a joy. It is hard to believe that he has been with us over a month already and he has come so far in that time. Marley is feeling very comfortable, so comfortable in fact that when we had family visit us this past weekend with their female Chocolate Lab, Marley wasn't so sure he wanted to share 'his' house and 'his' foster family. He got a bit jealous but he and Paige eventually decided to be friends. It was quite obvious that in Marley's eyes - Paige was the visitor and he, along with our four dogs, were the residents! He has bonded quickly to us and our dogs and should bond quickly with his forever family as well, in fact… a family is coming to meet Mr. Marley – so keep your paws crossed for this wonderful boy.

Marley (on foster dad's lap) and foster family

Hi there - it's me, Marley! I just wanted to tell you that I had an awesome weekend. First thing last Saturday morning I got to go on a play date with a little girl who is 5 years old. Foster Mom & Dad took me to her house and I was a very good boy. I met the girl, her Mom and Dad and sat nicely while everyone checked me out. Everyone was so impressed with how calm and well behaved I was - that was until I saw the cat! I just wanted to get a closer look, but when Sam cat ended up under the bed - that was the end of that! Foster Mom had to put my leash on me to get me out of the bedroom. Oh well, it was more fun playing with the little girl anyway. I really like her - and I followed her all around her house - even downstairs where she showed me her toys. I tried to play with one, but she said "Hey - give me that!" so I dropped it right away. Guess I'll have to bring my own toys next time we play.

We went outside and she and her Dad threw the ball for me a bunch of times. Boy, for a little girl, she can sure can throw a ball. She has a really big fenced yard, so it was fun to run and play. I think I'd like a big fenced yard in my forever home - so I can run free and still stay safe. Don't know if I have to have kids of my own, but I know that I really like kids. I heard foster Mom & Dad say that the little girl was very comfortable around me and since she was so calm and relaxed, I was calm and relaxed. I guess that's why it was such a fun day for everyone.

Even though I'm still a 'kid', I am trying to be good. Okay, I'll admit that I did have a few potty accidents at my foster home - but none for over a week now, so I think I've got the house-training thing figured out. You just have to let me out a lot, so I get the hang of it and learn the routine. Speaking of learning, I have learned a lot since coming here. I've learned to sit before my meals and for cookies, okay - maybe I don't sit for very long, but at least I sit! I sleep quietly all night on my dog bed in the big bedroom with my foster parents and the resident dogs. Even though some of the dogs get to sleep with foster Mom & Dad, I don't mind - it's too crowded up there for my taste anyway. My cold is all gone, no more boogers, I like to play with my foster fur brothers but I am just as happy to hang out with a nylabone or ball, as long as I can be near my foster Mom or Dad. I really like it when they pet me and I give them kisses all the time to show my appreciation. I still pull kind of hard on the leash but I am trying. Oh and when I first came here - I hated getting in the car. It wasn't bad being IN the car, once I got lifted in but I didn't like to get in under my own power (if you know what I mean). Well, now I jump right in. Foster Mom said that I finally figured out that a car ride is a good thing. We go fun places in the car - so getting in is a piece of cake now. I especially like to ride between the front seats of my foster Mom's mini van. The view is better up there and I can get scratches too.

Better scoot - I have lots of playing to do before bedtime and when I do go to sleep, I'll be dreaming of my very own forever family, are you my forever family?

Love,

Marley

As promised, more pictures of Marley, or "McBooger" as we call him. You'll see that he is such a good boy, he even brought me the Kleenex to wipe his nose. He has a date to meet some kids this weekend. We'll let you know how he does!

Would somebody wipe my nose please?I love my Nylabone!Marley & Dusty outsideMarley & foster DadMarley & friends
