Buster 06-442

Profile

10/6/06: Buster is here and settling in just fine. This guy is an older gentleman, but he really has a lot of spunk left in him. This gentleman is 11 years old and is sweet as pie. Buster was well loved by his former family. They had him since he was about 8 weeks old. Their life has changed and they wanted to make sure that this wonderful fella would be well taken care of. So here he is - Buster is now a RAGOM dog.

Buster rode great in the car on the way home - he paced a little but then conked out and took a nap most of the way. He met his new foster brother Larry and went for a walk around the yard, before comeing in the house. I think that Buster sniffed and peeked into every nook and cranny that he could find. He also got to meet his foster sisters (the CATS). Buster was not interested in them at all. He took a sniff and walked away. Later this evening he walked up to one cat, put his nose up to hers and gave her a little lick. I think that the cat might of had a heart attack. Right now Buster is sleeping soundly at my feet.

Buster is a BIG boy, he weighs around 100 lbs. According to his former family he has recently lost about 25 lbs. But I have to admit, even at 100 lbs. he looks pretty good. He is very friendly guy, loves to be brushed. He is such a sweet boy. Please don't let this guy get away. Buster may be an elderly fella but you would never know it. He is pretty feisty running and playing with Larry.

If you are interested in meeting Buster, please email placementatragom [dot] org. This is one guy you won't want to pass up.

Dear Kathy -

I wanted to give you an update on Buster 06-442 who we adopted October 2006. We lost Buster on Nov 1, 2007 after about three weeks of deterioration due to some kind of cancer that was affecting his heart. We noticed Buster was losing weight and we started having to add incentives to his food to get him to eat better in the fall and he would tire more easily on walks but he didn't seem to be uncomfortable until the last couple weeks when he started having periods of uncontrolled heart rhythms.

Buster was a wonderful dog who we enjoyed tremendously for the year that we had with him. He loved to go outside as much as possible and was an excellent training program for me after my knee surgery just before we adopted him. Buster loved to sit on the couch with us and watch TV, especially if we were having popcorn. He was always with us in the house and would follow us every time we changed rooms. Just being with us, even if he was just sleeping, was important. His favorite spot in the house was the patio door looking out on the deck.

We took Buster with us on a six day canoe trip in the BWCA in August. This was perfect for Buster because he was outside and mostly off leash for six days. Buster was a natural in the canoe because of his easy going calm dogality. He was big at 90lbs and could have caused trouble. Sometimes he climbed back in the canoe when he wanted to go again and at the end of one portage, we found another group trying to get an immovable Buster out of one of their canoes. I attached some photos of Buster from the canoe trip which is how I want to remember him and perhaps they can be sent to his original owners and/or put up on the RAGOM site.

Thanks for being Buster's foster mom and for all you and RAGOM do.

Dan

PS, Amber 06-0455, who we adopted with Buster, is doing great. Amber was undergoing steroid treatments for low platelet counts when we got her and she seemed so frail compared to Buster that we thought she might not be with us as long as he would. Instead, she is doing great, is still very playful, and has no health issues now except a little arthritis. Amber is more of an indoor dog and we thought the canoe trip would be too much for her so she stayed home.
