Kato 06-047

Profile

2/10/06: Kato was a stray that wandered onto a good Samaritan's property - she tried very hard to find his owner before contacting us. RAGOM named him Kato and he is starting to respond. Originally we were told he was 1 or 1.5 years old but I believe he is older. He has the whitest teeth I have ever seen. He is a light blonde who is very tall. Since he was a stray he was very skinny when he came in, currently weighs in around 59 lbs and he should probably be at least 70. He has so much fur that you wouldn't think he was underweight.

Kato is a sensitive soul - he is brave, sweet, gentle. He gets along with dogs, cats, and follows my son around. He is always wagging his tail...even after he was neutered. He has marked inside the house but we will work on that.

I used my crystal ball to guess what his previous life was like and I would say he was an outside dog, as sometimes I have to lure him back into the house...with hot dogs. No one can resist hot dogs! He has some house manners so I'm guessing he was allowed in at times. He's very mellow and likes to roll in the snow. He was a pet at one time because he is very gentle.

His eyes and his expressions just kill me - I swear I love the soul of a stray and their kindness - he is my new love. He is settling in nicely, a little nervous at first but he's becoming more and more trusting of the lady who smells like hot dogs. So far he just watches the other Goldens play, which is good because he is still healing from his surgery. Every once in a while he will run along with them, but that is it. This guy needs a forever home, he doesn't appear to be much of a wanderer but because he was a stray I would love for him to have a physical fence. If you don't have one, you would need to walk him and play with him on a tie out. I don't ever want to see this guy wandering the streets again. He's too special to live his life alone.

He also adores checking himself out in the mirror...to make sure he looks good for the lady with hot dogs. Come and meet Kato at PetCo on Feb 11th. He will be the one giving you the eyes from across the room :)

Kato has been adopted by an amazing family. We have been working with meet and greets with their dog Collin to make sure everything goes fine. We went for walks, had play dates, and just hung out. Then Collin decided that he wanted to meet Kato and now they are friends. Kato's new name will be Rowan.

When I met his new family at the PetCo event on 2/11 they fell in love with him within seconds. The first thing I told them was that he is heartworm positive and asked if they were willing to take him during his recovery period (this was my test to see if they loved him!). After explaining what was involved they said they would do whatever it takes to make him a part of their family.

Rowan fka Kato will be well taken care of - he's already being spoiled by his new family. Rowan's new Mom came along for his vet appointment and familiarized herself with the facility and the heartworm procedure. Rowan will need to spend 2 days at the clinic and then have 6 weeks of no activity. After the 6 weeks I'm sure Rowan will be dying to play with his fur family.

Stray's Prayer

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair. My body is aching, it's so racked with pain, and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain, That someone will love me and give me a home, a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.

My last owner tied me all day in the yard, Sometimes with no water, and God that was hard. So I chewed my leash, and God I ran away, To rummage in garbage and live as a stray. But now God, I'm tired and hungry and cold, and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones, while I run the streets just looking for bones! I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can, or have I become just a "Victim of Man!" I'm wormy dear God and I'm ridden with fleas, and all that I want is an Owner to please! If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good, and I won't chew their shoes, and I'll do as I should.

I'll love them, protect them and try to obey....when they tell me to sit, to lie down or to stay! I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone. Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry, cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die. And I've got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to Live!

So dear God, please answer my prayer, and send me someone who will REALLY care.. That is, dear God, if YOU'RE REALLY there!

I wish we could answer the prayer of all dogs looking for a family who will give them love, food, water, and shelter. This is Rowan's prayer that when you see a stray, look kindly upon him and help him out. ROWAN is FINALLY HOME. A stray's prayer has been answered.
