Katrina (Taffy 05-295)

Profile

10/1/05: Taffy (we don't know her real name) arrived in Minnesota from Hattiesburg, MS on 9-23, thanks to one of our RAGOM angels who was able to bring along two Golden girls on her trip back home to Iowa. Michelle drove 22 hours (each way) in order to assist with the rescue efforts of family pets in the aftermath of Katrina.

Because of the situation Taffy came from, the HSUS has given RAGOM permission to search for her forever home, rather than holding her until December 1st.

Dear Lavonna,

Well the trip home went very good, only stopped once, and she was very settled in her kennel, chewing her bones and sleeping. We are getting along fine except for the cat issue. She still likes to hunt and chase. Kept her on a leash for a while, then just corrected her. One of my cats is making friends, in fact I think she likes the dog, will still run at times-but they are making up. My other cat has been hiding since she got here-will take longer.

We have changed her name to Katrina, we call her Kati. She is truly everything we wanted in a dog, no bad habits, walks really nice, is settled and laid back. At nite we take her in our room and close the door so the cats will not distract her and she lays right down on her bed. Today we went back to work, but my daughter was home visiting and Kati had the run of the house. I really don't see any problems except making up to the cats. Have attached a picture of her and a new toy I got her. I think she is happy!

Thank you and RAGOM so much for giving us the dog we've always wanted!

Taffy is a 6 year old female Golden who was spayed in Mississippi prior to coming to Minnesota because of a uterine infection. She has had puppies in the past. She is heartworm postive and started treatment this past week. She also had to be shaved because she had a skin infection, and has been treated for that. Taffy is UTD and micro chipped.

Taffy is a very sweet girl and is dark gold. She is very interested in the cats, but she doesn't chase them, just wants to get close to them. I think after a few days she will lose interest. I will write more as we get to know her.
