Amber found a favorite toy yesterday ... a squeaky ball. We now rarely find her without it. She whines if she can't find it. Amber has given up attempting to play with the resident Golden, and they are co-existing peacefully. Bully cat is tolerating Amber, even rubbed up against her once (but then got upset, because he didn't realize it wasn't the resident dog until afterwards). Nervous cat is tentatively starting to venture out from the basement. Amber is happy as can be, and is pretty much a Velcro girl. She has a funny little grunt/moan sound that she makes when she's laying down, when I am cleaning her ears, and when you try to pick her up (for the bath & at the vet), and she has a quiet snore. She has shown no aggression, will swap any item for another, is easy to walk, and loves to snuggle. She nuzzles my hand for affection, even sometimes when I am walking around the house and she's following behind me. She barks appropriately, and is very agile.
Amber's follow up visit with the vet went great! Her platelet count is up, so the prednisone is doing its thing. We now need to re-test her blood every 3 to 4 days to make sure the level keeps climbing. Once we are in the normal range, we will start to wean her off the drug, making sure that her platelet count remains stable. In the meantime, the prednisone makes her very thirsty, and she must be let out often. Amber has been a trooper at the vet, and has adjusted so easily to my home. She seems to have had no idea there was anything wrong with her. The vet was QUITE concerned at her original low platelet level, and indicated that at that level, there was grave danger to Amber. We are all breathing a little easier knowing that her level is going up! A senior blood profile may have just saved her life!
