I picked Sugar up at a shelter in Iowa this past Thursday. I was in love with her from the moment I met her! Her name describes her to a T....sweet, sweet, sweet! The shelter staff told me that she was 10, but I had a real hard time believing it until I saw her DOB on her rabies certificate. She sure doesn't act like a 10 year old...she still has a lot of spunk left in her!!
Sugar was surrendered to the shelter because she kept running away and the family didn't want to get in trouble because of her anymore. Sugar had been living in a home with deplorable living conditions, a garbage house, if you will. Her skin and coat are in very poor shape, probably a combo of poor nutrition and the living conditions. Sugar is currently on antibiotics to try to clear up some of her skin problems and we've put her on a high quality food along with some supplements to help her recover. She also had an oatmeal bath and conditioning when we got home on Thursday night! I'm pretty sure the bath wasn't her favorite activity, but she didn't fight it either. She was dry in no time at all, but that's because her coat is very sparse, if not bare skin over her entire little body.
Sugar loves to ride in the car, but would really prefer to ride on my lap!! After a little bit, she settled in on the floor next to Emily's seat and slept. She started whining a bit so we stopped for a potty break and then all was good!! Sugar truly believes that she is a lap dog and will do whatever it takes to weasel her way onto a lap. Especially mine!! This little girl has literally been glued to my side since I picked her up!! It's like I put her in a permanent heel position! She even shares my pillow at night!
We have an appointment at the vet on Monday for a hw test, senior bloodwork and exam. After that, Sugar will be all set to go to her new home. Email placement
