Brandy 04-404

Profile

We'd like you to meet Brandy. He is a tall, lanky red dog. I joked that his name should have been Clifford. Brandy will be 9 in April. He has had an eventful week. He arrived at our home last Saturday, 12/18/04. He came with his life long companion, Gabby 04-403. Unfortunately, Gabby had some serious health issues and she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Brandy seems to be adjusting to his loss fairly well. We did discover that Brandy is heartworm positive and will need treatment. After the heartworm is treated, he will also have to be neutered. We haven't told him this yet. We wanted him to get through the holidays without more bad news.

Dear Ragom,

Boy, do we feel lucky! I know you say on your website that you don't have perfect dogs, but somehow we have managed to adopt 2 so far, so you may have to remove that!

We are just thrilled with Brandy. What a fun, playful, interactive and energetic senior we brought home. Our ride home was uneventful. Brandy is a great traveler and took the 5 hour trip like a pro. On our walks, which he loves, I think he has sufficiently let the neighborhood know he is the new kid on the block. What we found he loves even more than the walks, is chasing tennis balls in this single enclosed tennis court about 5 minutes from our house, that only our family seems to know about. He chased after tennis balls like a cheetah. This guy has some real speed on him.

We found out Brandy is good at catching tricksters too. On Sunday, May 1, we got May Dayed. (Remember May Day? You bring treats to your friends, ring the doorbell and run like mad, so as to not be seen! It seems to be a lost holiday for many, but some are still at it.) Well, the doorbell rang, my daughter opened it and the May Dayer would have gotten away scott free, but Brandy went chasing out the door, around the corner and caught up to them. We chased after Brandy and found our suspects. We did learn through that though, that we need to be careful when opening the door and we will work with Brandy on that.

We are able to wear him out though, and he is so good at just chilling when the 2 legged ones have to go do boring stuff, like homework and cleaning, etc. We have yet to hear him bark at all, so he's a quiet guy that way. He is very alert though and curious, especially to all the sounds of the neighborhood on our walks. His little ears perk right up. The kids will run with him, which he thinks is great fun, but with me, he knows I am way more senior than he is, and for the most part he stays right by me. When the smells on the lawns get too much for him to bear, he will pull, but if I say his name with authority, he comes over and sits. I can tell he is very smart and eager to please.

We were going to give him a more masculine name. We mulled over Bandit, Andy, Benny, Bandee and a few more, but like the MN legislature, we couldn't get a majority vote and he definitely responds to Brandy, so Brandy it may very well stay.

So, I just wanted you to know how happy we all are. I think Brandy is very happy, too. Thank you all again for everything you do and thanks especially to Brandy's foster Mom for taking such good care of him, until we found our way to each other.

Well, didn't you guys get my invitations to my 9th birthday party? Hmmm, maybe I mailed them too late. Well, we had a good time anyway. We had Frosty Paws and lots of gourmet dog cookies. Here is a picture of me with my foster sister during a break in the festivities. The other picture is of me recovering from the party. Sorry you missed the wild time! Love, Brandy

Well, here I am again, I'm sitting by the phone waiting for someone to call. I'm getting tutored on Tuesday so I'll be a very smart dog. As you can see, I'm already handsome. My foster mom says I'm a big sleek boy. I have an easy maintenance coat and I'm very happy living in the house. I have 4 foster sisters and 1 foster brother and we all get along great. I am learning how to play and I love to go for long walks. Remember, Brandy 04-404. I'd like to be in my forever home before my birthday in April.

Brandy continues to do well while recuperating from his heartworm treatment. We can tell he is feeling better because it is getting harder to keep him quiet. He greeted us with a tug in his mouth today and tossed it to entice us to play with him. He is also trying to initiate play with the other dogs. He is going back to the vet on Tuesday for his final heartworm treatment and once he is released by the vet, Brandy will be neutered. He will ready for a forever home and make a great addition to any family.

Brandy is quite a character. Today he led a mass escape of 4 dogs out of our yard. He is able to open gate latches (even difficult ones). Brandy is also able to open doors with round handles. We couldn't figure out how the door to the guest room kept opening. We finally realized Brandy was opening the door. Brandy is very interested in our guinea pigs and jumps up to look at them, however, he has not made any aggressive moves toward them. I think he is just curious. He gets along great with our 3 Goldens girls and our Black Lab boy. Brandy loves people and will nudge your arm if he thinks he should get some petting. He has been an outside dog but we have not had any accidents since the first day. He definitely prefers being inside the house. He likes to play with tennis balls and tug toys and he LOVES to ride in the car. We hope you will consider Brandy as an addition to your family.
