Buddy 05-075

Profile

Buddy is a handsome 6 year old neutered male. He is so sweet. He rode like a champ in the car, ate his dinner, did his business in the backyard and met my Molly with grace (can't say that Molly was much help!). He grabbed a tennis ball and laid down on the kitchen floor holding on to the ball with his eyes closed, just soaking up the love.

We are sad to let you know that Buddy O'B was put to sleep today. He was initially adopted from RAGOM by Joan O'B 3/2005, and later, upon her death, by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kristen, and their two boys, Jack and William. He had agressive bone cancer. It was a very hard decision, but we didn't want him to be in pain any more.

We love Buddy so much and will miss him terribly. He was a friendly, loving dog and so good with our two little boys. Jack was born the day Joan got the dog so he knew Buddy from the beginning. Whenever he got scared, Buddy would get into his bed and make him feel safe. William was born shortly after Buddy moved in, so Buddy helped keep me sane while home with a new baby. He was my "house husband" and companion and William's guardian. He would keep me company all day, joining me wherever I was. He loved going to our cabin, taking walks and just hanging out with the family. He was great off leash in the front yard with me (no fence) and loved meeting other people. This morning we woke to William (now almost 2), who is just starting to use multi-sylables, calling out "Bu...ddy...bu...ddy...bu....ddy" when he spied the dog. William used to just call him "Dee" so this is an improvement! Jack is especially sad, being old enough to understand death and never not having Buddy in his life. Buddy was a perfect dog.

I simply can't say enough great things about sweet Buddy, and I've only had him about 18 hours! He likes to follow me around the house but will lay quietly at my feet while I'm working. Of course every so often he gets up, puts his head in my lap and reminds me that I REALLY should be petting him instead of working! He slept thru the night well, he has had no accidents in the house, he has stayed off the furniture (so far!) and has really been the perfect gentleman. He quickly learned to give my older Golden girl Molly her space and her toys whenever she wants them. Because he is respectful, Molly is starting to get used to him already - I've seen her giving him a little kiss! Per his surrendering family, he does not want to relieve himself while on a leash. This can be good in some ways...at least your neighbors won't witness him watering their prize rose bush while you are out on a walk! However, it may mean that he will need a fenced yard so he can do his business easily. I haven't had him long enough to verify this. I've taken him on one 20-minute leash walk and sure enough, he did not "go". We do have a fenced yard and he has done just fine here. He is one handsome gent with a touch of grey on his muzzle and long legs that prance when he walks. He will melt your heart!
