2/27/06: Hi Y'all. It's me, Shadow, all the way from Southern Mississippi. Foster Mom says she can't wait to hear me bark to see if I have a southern drawl. My situation is a bit unfortunate - I came from a very loving home and my owner was very sad to have to surrender his "best bud", but he knew I needed a new start. It wasn't easy for either of us after the hurricane. My dad and me, we lost everything in the storm. Dad needs some extra care now and so he decided it's best that find a new family who could better care for me. Thanks, Dad, for everything. I'll miss you. I loved being your "best bud". I'll keep you in my pawrayers.

Well, I'm here in foster care. I really like the pack here (Goldens, Poodles, cats, and a rat) - maybe a little too much Foster Mom says. I seem to think that everyone's "business" is my business. Mom says I will mellow when I get neutered. Not sure what that means - probably just extra treats. Foster Mom says I'm a real "hottie". Big ol' head, big shoulders, little butt, expressive face, gives nice kisses, takes treats nicely, listens (most of the time), missing a lower canine (hey, nobody's perfect!). Sounds like kind of a cool "personals" ad, don't ya think?

I'm going to get to know my foster family a little better and then I'll write again and let you know more about them and what kind of family they're looking for. Oh, wait - it's ME looking for the perfect family!!!!

I'll write soon! Love, B Shadow

It's Shadow here! Last weekend, my new mom and dad took me on a long car ride way up north. I got to see Lake Superior for the first time. Wow, was it big and cold! And very beautiful. We went to a place called Coast Guard Point (aka Artist's Point), but I was afraid to walk on the seawall. It's kind of narrow, and if you're not careful, you can fall off the edge right into that cold water. But we tried it again a couple of days later, and I did it! I was still nervous, but I knew Mom and Dad wanted me to try, so I did it! Mom and dad were so happy, and I was so proud! Next time it won't be very scary at all. I LOVE running in the woods up there. I don't even need a leash. Well, at least not all of the time. My new uncle Eric and Aunt Jill took me on a long hike, and Eric said I needed to be leashed, because he was afr aid I'd chase a deer and forget to come back. There are tons of interesting critters and smells in the woods. Mom said if I ever see a black and white striped critter, I should run the other way. I'm just not sure if I can do that, though. I have a great new extended family - and they all love me to pieces. I love my new grandma so much, I sat right in her lap outside by the lake. I'm sending you a picture of that. It was kind of scary in the sea villa, though, because they had a fire going in the inside fireplace, and that made me nervous. So I laid up on the landing for most of the evening. I'm going to work on getting over that fear, because my Grand Marais house also has a fireplace, and I want to be right in the living room with my family. I know I can do it. I'm settling in much better with my new family. Sometimes I still wish that little white dog would just disappear, but I don't think that's going to happen. Oh well, I guess nothing is perfect. I also love to wrestle with my dad, and I'm sending you a picture to show you. Mom says she will send a couple more pictures later, too. I miss you. Maybe you can come up to Grand Marais sometime this summer, to see me?????

Until next time. Shadow :-))
