Lottie is one of the first five dogs to come into RAGOM from China. She was saved by Chinese rescuers from a slaughterhouse in Shandong, China and brought to Beijing with 49 other Golden Retrievers from the same effort. She then waited for a rescue organization to step forward to take her.

RAGOM saw her picture and heard about the rescue effort for these Goldens and felt compelled to help.

Lottie has now been with us for almost two weeks and has settled in wonderfully. She gets along just fine with our two resident senior Golden girls. She is quite a counter surfer and will continue to need work on this. She also will require basic obedience training, although she is an incredibly smart girl and is very food motivated so training thus far has been relatively easy.

Since coming to us, Lottie has not had one accident in our home, but we are religious about keeping her on a schedule and setting her up for success. She had her initial health exam and is taking antibiotics for a bacterial skin infection and ear drops for an ear infection, but otherwise she is in great health.

What I would like to see in Lottie's forever home:

• While she gets along great with our two dogs, I think she would love being an only dog in her home where she could get all the attention.
• Children in the home should be 15 years old or older, for safety reasons. Due to her background, Lottie does have some mild resource guarding issues. We have found this to be very manageable and very rarely does she show this behavior. But I do not want her in an environment where a child would try to take something from her.
• Someone who will take her to obedience training and commit to lifelong training.
• Lottie crates wonderfully and could be in a home where both parents work full time. However, she would need time to transition to a full day alone and would require that someone come home to let her out during the day and build her up to 8 hours.
• A family committed to daily walks to get her out to learn all about her new world.

Lottie is such an incredible girl. She is happy and learning new things every day. We made a promise to her Chinese rescuers to find her a perfect home, and I know that home is out there for her. Read more about RAGOM's rescued China dogs.
