We are please to announce that Prince has been adopted by a very special furever family. He has become a brother to their 5-year-old Golden "Brewtus." He will enjoy lots of walks and hikes with his family searching for agates, and he will have a fenced yard with a pup pool where he can play and chill with his brother. He is one lucky boy!

Please welcome Prince to RAGOM! Sir Prince Maximus is a 5½-year-old, purebred, light golden, neutered male. He is healthy and up to date on all of his vaccines and preventatives. Prince has spent his entire life in an outdoor kennel with only an Igloo doghouse for shelter from the winters and summers.

His owners are divorcing and have surrendered him to RAGOM because they will no longer be able to keep him. Prince has been in his foster home for ten days and we are finding out he is a beautiful and happy gentle giant.

Prince 19-126

Prince is a very big boy, weighing in at 91.5 pounds! He is like having a polar bear in the house and his size has earned him the nicknames of "Bubba," "Moosie," "Big Boy," and "Pooh Bear." He will need to lose about six pounds through food modification and regular exercise.

He loves to go on walks and walks very well when using an Easy Walk Harness. Attempting to walk Prince by attaching the leash to his collar will be something like skijoring, without the skis. He will pull at Olympic speeds.

Prince will run so he must be on a leash or tether when outside, accompanied by a responsible handler. He will need a fenced yard to keep him safe.

Prince gets along very well with our two resident Goldens. He is learning to play with other dogs and toys and shares toys well. He does not understand when the resident Goldens steal his toys and will woof in disbelief. He loves to carry a ball or a stuffed toy in his mouth and will often bring you a toy as a gift. He has a very gentle mouth and takes treats very gently.

He is a very happy, goofy boy! He has quite an expressive personality and will woof to tattle on the other Goldens. He is a Velcro dog who will always be by your side and and quite the lover. He loves hugs, pets, and snuggles. He smiles when you rub his belly. He will gently mouth your arm to get your attention for pets and hugs.

We are working on this behavior by replacing our arm with a toy. He is very smart and learns new tasks easily. He understands sit, stay, come, lay down, off, and leave it. He rides well in a car, but likes to help navigate and love on the driver, so a harness and seat belt tether in the backseat is a safety must. He is so happy to please!

Prince 19-126

He's had a tough life living in an outdoor kennel and surviving in Minnesota winters, so he has a dense thick coat. His previous owner shaved him before surrendering him, which really helps him manage the warmer temps.

His coat should thin out as he acclimatizes to the indoor Golden life, so he will need extra brushing during this time. He tolerates brushing well and has a very soft coat.

He does have storm anxiety but responds well to putting a tight t-shirt on him, turning the TV up, and snuggling beside him. He woofs at the thunder and pants, but the t-shirt, TV, and snuggles put his anxiety at ease. It breaks our hearts to think he tried to manage storms outside all by himself for 5½ years. What a brave boy!

Prince 19-126

Prince loves the lake! He first lays down to cool off and then he takes his Ninja stance in the water, standing silently and watching for fish to swim by. It is quite comical how focused he is on fishing. He is like a statue in the water.

Prince's first 24 hours in your home will require you to understand that he has some anxiety with transition. He will woof and pant a lot during that period. He needs a home that will understand this and will take time to reassure him, give him pats, hugs and kisses and is patient with his transition.

After 24 hours of love, he turns into a quiet, goofy boy who just wants nothing more than to be loved and cherished. He truly is a prince!
