Updates

Mimi got lucky and the perfect family has adopted her. She has a well-adjusted canine sister and two humans who are already in love with her. She has been renamed Lola.

She came so far during her time with us. We were still working on a few things, like counter/table surfing. She had great role models in two of the resident dogs, Will and Skye, and the third resident just left her alone. The two cats taught her that they were not to be messed with, which turned out good since she has two cats in her new home.

I'm looking forward to updates as she gains more confidence and learns that life as a Golden Retriever is fun. Being from a commercial breeder, she wasn't quite sure all the time that life was good, she was still learning.

She loves her crate. She often goes in just to rest. Often we find several toys in the crate with her—a very breeder-momma-like habit.

It’s hard to tell Mimi was ever shy. She has progressed so far and in just 10 days.

Mimi has been here for a little over a week. She has settled in and is figuring life out. She has not pottied in the house since her first day here. I realized she was getting distracted by the noises in the neighborhood and then we would go back inside before she was ready.

So now we watch her to make sure she takes care of business outside before we go in. She is no longer tethered because of that. We still use the crate when nobody is home and at night.

Mimi gets along with all the dogs she has met. She also totally ignores the two cats that live in the house. She's a bit interested in the parakeet, but is easily distracted.

She went to the vet for a booster shot and was declared healthy. She has no more ear infections and she's gaining weight: almost up to 50 pounds. Her spay incision is healing well and her enforced no-play time is soon to end.

She was scared at the vet, but I've fostered dogs that were way more scared than she was. She even ended up taking a treat from the vet tech when we were finishing up. She rode well in the car.

Mimi does like to chew on inappropriate items and she likes to steal from tables and counters, so we are working on that. She's smart so I think she'll figure things out quickly.

She's ready to find her forever home.

Meet Mimi! She is a 2-year old Golden Retriever looking for her forever home to live out her Golden life!

Mimi came to us from another foster home earlier this week. I believe she originally came from the same place that Misty 19-139 came from and they appear to be sisters.

Mimi is a former commercial breeder mom and is fearful of all the new things she has experienced in such a short time. It is safe to say her life was turned upside down yet again this past week when she switched foster homes.

When she first arrived here she was so scared she wouldn't even look at us. Plus, she had just been spayed earlier that day so she didn't feel the greatest. On top of all that, we live in a very urban area and there are lots of sounds she needs to get used to.

She has found the toy box. She loves to bring toys into her crate, which is set up in the dining room. The only toys we have out right now are the indestructible kind so she won't be eating anything she shouldn't.

She hasn't chewed on anything she shouldn't as of yet, but her poo indicates otherwise. Because she isn't housebroken, and because she has just been spayed, she has been either tethered to me or crated at all times as she needs to learn how to live in the house.

She is getting braver and bolder each day and it's been fun to watch. More to come soon from Mimi!
