We’re happy to report that sweet Dakota has found his perfect family! He will be living with other resident dogs and a family that adores him. His new family had to put one of their Goldens down a few months ago and were ready to bring another sweet pup into their home.
He’ll be spending his days going for long walks and playing outside. He is settling right in and has already claimed his spot on the couch.
Dakota is one of those stories that started out so sad, but turned into a beautiful, happy ending, and he’ll continue to be loved for years to come! His new family hopes his previous owner knows that he’s doing great and they will take extra special care of him.

Dakota is a fantastic, sweet, and loving boy! It’s clear he was so loved and well cared for by his surrendering owner. The family had a baby, and after almost a year of trying to adjust, poor Dakota was still having a really hard time with having a baby in the house. He seemed depressed and lost his spunk.
His mom had saved him from a life of being kept outside, tied to a tree. She rescued him from his first owner and brought him into her family. She gave him so much love for several years and reported that he is just the best dog (and he is).
When she saw what a hard time he was having with adjusting to the baby, she knew he deserved to live in a less stressful situation. Such an act of love to trust RAGOM to find a new forever home for him. We know she will always be a part of his life and he will never forget her!
Dakota made a long journey with the help of three different volunteers to arrive at our home. He understandably seemed a little nervous when he first arrived, but didn’t take too long to settle in and begin trusting us!
He loves to go for walks on the lake and likes to do lots of sniffing. He came with some toys and lovingly carries them around the house. We weren’t sure how Dakota would feel about living with our 6-year-old daughter, but he does great! He enjoys pets from her and takes treats so gently!
Our two resident boys get along great with Dakota. They occasionally play and haven’t had any issues with things escalating; Dakota seems well-socialized. He has been such a joy to have in our home, and he’s great to cuddle with on cold, winter days!
