Buddy was adopted on New Years Eve Day. He is blessed to have found his forever home and his adopted family is blessed to start the new year with a wonderful Golden that deserves all the love and attention they will give him. He will get to enjoy playing with kids and room to roam.
Congratulations Buddy and family!

Buddy’s progress from day to day, week to week is amazing. He is still a big cuddle bug that will crawl in the chair with you if you let him and is willing to sit for hours letting you pet him. If he’s not quite done he will gently nudge your hand to let you know more love is needed. The mouthing we experienced earlier seems to have lessened now that his treats are being placed on the floor.
He has come so far regarding being willing to share toys and treats with our resident dog. Toys and treats are being traded between them constantly and Buddy takes it all in stride. He is very gentle with his toys, never biting or chewing, content to carry them around or lie with them. When he does pick something up like foster mom’s slipper he gives it up easily.
House training is still going well. He does not always signal us when he wants to go out so we make sure to take him outside every couple hours to prevent any accidents from happening.
He is confident enough now to go exploring around the yard. He enjoys running around a couple times but then decides he needs a rest and relaxes in the snow. He is doing great going on walks with the gentle leader. We are going to try without it as he is so good at leisurely walking beside his foster mom.
The other night Buddy excitedly met his foster mom’s sister and her family. He was treated to lots of love and then was content to hang out in the kitchen chewing his rawhide while relaxing at our feet.

As Buddy becomes more comfortable in his environment we are seeing a new confidence and some new behaviors emerge.
Sometimes Buddy will gently “mouth” your hand when you walk by. He will not bite, but he will place his mouth on your hand and then go about his business. We have started placing his treats on the floor so he stops associating treats with our hands and this seems to be helping.
He can also get excited to see his foster mom and dad when they arrive home. Once out of the kennel this may entail a jump or two although he quickly settles down as soon as you give him some welcome home love. For this reason Buddy’s kid requirement age has been raised to 8+.
Buddy has also begun exploring the house on his own. Walking up and down the hallway and trying to figure out if he wants to go downstairs with our resident dog and resident cat. Buddy is enjoying the freshly fallen snow but enjoys going back inside the warm house as well.
We have begun using a gentle leader while going on walks and although it took a little adjustment he is doing very well. Buddy enjoys the sights, sounds and smells that come with his new foster neighborhood.
Buddy is still learning about toy sharing one particular toy. He really loves his pink squeaky bone so sharing it with resident dog can cause him a little anxiety sometimes. He is always willing to exchange it for a treat.
Buddy is enjoying all the love he can get out of foster mom and dad. He will sit patiently while we scratch under his chin and is so relaxed while we pet any part of his body we can reach. He is such a lovable dog.

Buddy is a beautiful 7½-year-old Golden Retriever who came to his foster home from a senior owner who felt he could no longer adequately care for Buddy after suffering a stroke.
Buddy has been with his foster family for a week and has shown that all he is looking for is lots of love and affection. Buddy enjoys putting his head in his foster mom’s lap while enjoying some one-on-one time. As long as you are willing to pet this lovable boy, he will sit patiently in front of you and soak up the love you are giving him.
Having had limited, if any, interaction with other dogs and cats, Buddy has adjusted nicely to his foster family's resident dog and resident cat. After taking a couple of days to settle in, Buddy has learned the resident dog is a great playmate outside.
We are still working on toy sharing but Buddy is open to exchanging a toy for something else. Buddy has adjusted nicely to eating in the same room and taking treats with our resident dog nearby.
Buddy is still not sure what to think of the resident cat. He spends a lot of time watching and listening and giving the resident cat a wide berth. He will do great with a cat that is dog-savvy; a runner may be a different story.
Buddy enjoys his time outside in his foster family's fenced-in yard. He is excited to see the neighbor's two Huskies when they are in the next yard. Buddy does great on the 30-foot leash; he enjoys exploring the fence line and all the smells in the snow.
Everything is a new experience. Since Buddy had never been inside before, housetraining was first on his new experience agenda. In the seven days he has been with us, he has only had one accident in the house. He has taken to housetraining fabulously.
Next up was crate training. He may not love going in, but with some treats to lure him he does great once inside. He is content to watch the activity or sleep. He is currently in the crate at night and while foster mom and dad are at work. No accidents!!
Having not been on a leash until a week ago, this is a new and exciting skill for Buddy to learn as well. Foster mom believes Buddy is a quick learner and it will just take a little time and patience to teach him leash walking etiquette. Furever mom or dad will need to be willing to work with him on leash walking etiquette and the other basic commands he was never taught.
We are currently working on "sit" and taking treats gently from our hands, and Buddy is doing excellent.
Buddy was given a clean bill of health when he was at the vet last weekend. A couple of days later Buddy was taken in to the groomer for a bath (we don’t believe he had one before), nail trim, grooming and hair trim. The groomer said Buddy did an excellent job and seemed to enjoy his time at the spa.
Foster mom’s vision for Buddy’s furever home is a loving environment filled with lots of affection for this beautiful boy. He truly has a kind soul that he is just waiting to share with others. A resident dog playmate would be great but that is not a must have. Buddy loves to explore outside; if there isn’t a fenced yard he does great on a long leash.
