River—previously known only as “Number 81”—came to RAGOM from a breeder. Her forever family will need another confident dog to serve as River's role model. She hasn’t been tested with cats and children in the home should be age 8 or older. A fenced yard is required for her safety, as she is a flight risk. Due to an incident with another dog, River recently lost her left eye but is quickly adjusting. River's forever family must be dedicated to the socialization, training, and exercise needs of a puppy.

River found her forever home today. She’ll have two moms who already love her and a fur sister, Luna, to play with. An added bonus is the big yard she’ll have to run in.

River came into RAGOM almost two months ago, very anxious and scared of so many things. She has progressed so far and is becoming more of a confident puppy all the time. She is just a love and will be dearly missed by her foster mom. Have a great new life, River.

Hi, it's me, River!

I'm just checking in to tell you how I'm doing. You know that I had that little eye issue, but I'm healed now and it didn't slow me down a bit. Foster mom says I can run and play just like I used to. My incision is healed and I'm raring to go.

I've grown a bit and now I like to check out what's on the counter. I guess it's called counter surfing, but you never know when there might be a crumb or two.

I'm also doing better walking on the leash. I got a new harness to walk with; I guess it's called a Gentle Walker, and I don't pull as much. It makes Foster Mom very happy. I'm still cautious of loud noises and cars but it's getting better, especially when Bella is walking with us.

My kennel is still my favorite place to spend time. I bring in the toys and some chew things and just kind of settle in when I need a break. Foster Mom says I'm getting better with the potty training, too.

With all that's going on these days, I guess I'll be spending some more time here as I have to have some little procedure before I can find my forever home. But I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing fine.

Well, I have to go now and play with Bella.

River

From Foster Mom:

I want to thank the anonymous person who sponsored River. What a generous donation for River. It is the people like you who make RAGOM such an amazing organization and allow every dog to have the best care in moving forward in their new lives.

River is doing very well. She has accommodated for the loss of her eye amazingly so. She entertains herself and acts like a normal 4-month-old puppy. River still has some fears and anxieties from puppy mill life, but slowly with lots of patience, she is starting to overcome them.

River’s page will be updated frequently to keep you posted as she moves forward.

Thank you again from River and all of RAGOM.

Hi everyone,

It’s me, River. I have to tell you about an accident I had this weekend. First of all, I had a really fun time playing outside with other RAGOM dogs in a big yard on a sunny day. It was so much fun even though Foster Mom and Bella weren’t there. I made a lot of new friends.

But that evening I had an unfortunate situation with one of the dogs where I was staying. We both went for something and I got injured and had to have emergency surgery to remove my left eye. But everyone took such great care of me and Foster Mom says I’m doing so well.

My right eye is fine and my vision there is good. I’ve gotten used to seeing only with one eye and can run and get around just like I used to. I just have to be careful now for a couple of weeks until the stitches come out.

I told you I was strong and tough. I’m not letting this bump in the road slow me down.

Number 81, that's how I was known. I came into RAGOM from a retired breeder situation with many other dogs that great day when we started our new lives.

My name is River and I am RAGOM. Now I am in a home with a foster mom and a foster fur sister, Bella. I am 4 months old but I have missed so much in my short life.

I really don't like to go outside unless Bella is with me, but I am learning leash walking and my foster mom says I am so much better than when we started. Loud noises scare me and if you move quickly, that's not good either.

I am getting to know this thing called human touch and cuddling. I didn't know what to make of it at first, but now it's pretty nice when Foster Mom cuddles me and lets me lie in bed with her. I like cuddling and sometimes I snuggle up to Bella.

In the house I have lots of toys to play with and things to chew on. I sometimes even get the zoomies and race around. Then if I need quiet time I go into my kennel for a nap or just to chill out for a while. This living in a home is really very nice.

I haven't met any kids yet, but I think I would like them as long as they aren't too loud or move too fast. I might jump on them so they should be age 8 or older. I do only weigh 27 pounds, but I'm kind of strong and tough. That's what Foster Mom keeps telling me. I think those are good traits to have.

I do need to have another medium to large confident dog to be with me and help build my confidence. I also need a fenced yard to keep me safe and so I can run and not have to be afraid.

Maybe you would like for me to come live at your house?
