Profile

Elaine (we call her Lainey) came to RAGOM from a commercial breeding facility. She is learning that humans can be loving and seeks attention and belly rubs. Her forever home will require another medium to large, confident dog to help continue building her confidence. She hasn’t been tested with cats. Children in the home should be age 10 or older. Elaine enjoys being outdoors, and although a physical fence isn’t required, she would enjoy a fenced yard so she can freely sniff around.

Lainey has recovered from her spay and is back to her normal self. She is getting better about coming when called and seems to be more curious about new things. She will now go out the front door and also up other sets of stairs in our house and deck.

We've tried to get out on a couple walks a day. We only made it around the block a few of those times. One of the first nice days when everyone was out, there was a little more traffic, a dog barking at people walking by, and leaf blowers running. I think it was too much too soon, so we came home. We were able to get around the block the next day with some bits of hot dog to keep her going.

We have neighbor dogs beside and behind us and Lainey has gone to the fence to meet them. She doesn't bark at them even when they bark at her. She also seems interested in squirrels and will watch them until they are out of sight.

I have left her uncrated during the night this week and have had no issues. She has never chewed on anything inappropriate and loves her fuzzy tennis balls.

She continues to be a great houseguest and easy to have around.

Elaine came into RAGOM from a commercial breeding facility and was surrendered due to the owner moving. She's been with us for three weeks now. She's low energy but hoping to get some weight off of her when we can be outside for longer periods of time and go on walks.

She spent her first few days in her safe spot in the kitchen and has made great strides since then. She seeks out attention and loves belly rubs. She's slowly venturing into the living room in the evenings when we are watching TV and will lay down for a bit.

We have an 11-year-old resident dog who doesn't play much anymore, so she and Elaine co-exist, but they don't interact a lot. Elaine spent last weekend at another foster home while we were out of town and she did great! She followed their five dogs around the yard, went on walks, and slept uncrated gated in a room with no accidents.

Because Elaine wasn’t socialized during her breeding days, her forever home will require another medium to large, confident dog to help continue building her confidence. And any children will need to be age 10 or older as Elaine is quite skittish around sudden movements and loud noises.

Elaine came in with this name and we've been calling her Lainey or Lainey Jo. She doesn't look like an Elaine! Since she was a breeding mama for most of her life, she's quite overweight and out of shape. She's enjoyed a few walks and does nicely on a leash without pulling but kind of zig zags, so will need some work there.

Elaine LOVES tennis balls and stuffed animals. So far she's pulled out a squeaker, but hasn't totally destroyed any of them. She's so cute with them and bats them around, playing by herself until she notices we are watching her.

Elaine likes to be outside and sniff around the yard, but doesn't attempt to run away or seek ways to escape. She'd enjoy a fenced yard, but would do OK on a long lead and closely supervised if she wasn't fenced.

Surprisingly, we haven't seen any squirrels or bunnies yet, so not sure about prey drive or cats. She has barked at a dog she heard a few houses away, but doesn't bark much otherwise.

We have had only one accident in the house and I was on the phone and missed her cues, so I'll take the blame for missing her signs. We have crated her every night, but I think once we get confident with no more accidents, she will be fine uncrated. She is not destructive and has only chewed on her toys. She sleeps through the night without a peep.

Elaine is an absolute sweetheart. She can be a little stubborn if she doesn't want to move, but I think it's due to being unsure about things yet. She sure could sense when we wanted her to move to go to the vet! We do have to lift her into the car, as she won't jump in yet.

Elaine was spayed on March 18, so will have more updates after she recovers. She's still smiling while wearing the cone!
