Murphy came to RAGOM from a commercial breeder. While a little undersocialized, he is gaining confidence with exposure. Murphy is a typical puppy who will require continued training as well as plenty of exercise, and his family must keep things out of his reach. He can live with children older than 10 and would do best in a home with another young, playful dog. A physical fence is optional as long as a solid plan is in place to keep him safe. He has not been tested with cats.

After about 5 weeks with my foster family, I finally got to go home with my furever family. I had a good time hanging out with my brother, Cody, and foster brother, Cooper! We played a lot in the backyard and nap a lot on the couch.

My favorite things were chewing sticks in the backyard and playing zoomies with Cody. It was so much fun at my foster home!

But guess what, we are still able to do all these things because I am only moving next door! My family created a doggie gate in the backyard so I can still play with Cody and Cooper anytime!

I am so happy to be with my furever family. They take me out on walks every day, and Mommy brings me to the soccer field to watch Daddy play cricket. I meet so many good humans at the game, and they all love rubbing my belly! Mommy and I play lots of fetch together before Daddy's game.

I am also going to school for some Good Manners classes and some days, I go to doggie daycare so I can play with other dogs!

Thank you, RAGOM, for giving me a chance to live a Golden life!

Murphy is back in RAGOM's care and he is clearly having a good time in his new foster home, as we are also fostering his brother, Cody, so the brothers are united and in complete heaven! They play and nap together with their foster brother, Cooper.

It's been about two weeks since Murphy arrived here, and these are some things we discovered about him:

  • Murphy came back to RAGOM due to growling issues with his previous adopter. On his first day with his foster family, Murphy growled at Cody when Cody tried to approach him while he was playing with his plush toy. Foster Mom decided that he can only play with his plush toys when he is in a separate room, supervised by humans. Since then, no resource guarding or growling has been observed.

  • Murphy is very playful and has lots of energy. He does lots of zoomies in the backyard with Cody. He loves playing fetch with his foster dad and also loves playing tug-of-war! But after playing, he loves just hanging out with his foster family and being a lap dog.

  • During weekdays, Murphy's foster mom works from home, and he keeps her company, helping her facilitate meetings via Zoom. He is very calm and laid-back; it seems like he knows that it's work time and cooperates during meetings. When he is not in the mood to join the meetings, he lays or sits by the bench, looking out the window and watching the neighbor kids play. He is such a sweet puppy!

  • Murphy walks well on a leash, but could use more leash training. When he smells something interesting, he will start pulling, but will listen with a firm "No." When Murphy sees other dogs on walks, he will not bark at them even when they bark at him. He stays calm and just moves along. He is such a quiet, calm puppy around other dogs.

Murphy needs a family who will commit to giving him time and attention he needs to get trained, transition to his new home, and be the best dog he can be. As a puppy, Murphy cannot be left at home for more than 6 hours. He needs a family who will dedicate time with him outdoors, exposing him to new surroundings and adventures. And in return, Murphy will give his unconditional love and devotion.

Murphy is the most adorable 7-month-old Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix. He has the face and the ears of a Cocker, but the build and personality of a Golden Retriever.

He is a loving, sweet boy and is just a typical, mischievous puppy. He is such a joy each and every day!

Murphy came into RAGOM from a commercial breeder, so much is not known about his early life. He has been with us for over six weeks now, though, and I can tell you that this boy loves any and all attention and will melt to the floor when he gets pets. Additionally, he loves to curl up beside us on the couch for nap time.

Because of his background, Murphy is somewhat undersocialized. While in our home, he is a wonderful, confident dog, though he does still startle outside at loud or sudden sounds.  With each day and exposure to the outside sounds, he is getting more and more confident.

Murphy is a very playful boy. He will do best in a home either with another young, playful dog or a home where he is able to consistently play with other dogs.

Also, Murphy is still a puppy and explores everything with his mouth, so everything he is not allowed to chew must be kept out of his reach, and that includes everything on the floor and on counters. If you would love to welcome this special boy into your home, all things must be picked up and set outside of his reach.

The most important thing for Murphy's home is a family committed to exercise. We walk once in the morning with just him and again for about 2.5 miles in the afternoon with him and our senior dog. Days when this routine have not been followed are days we find him with an excess of energy.

Murphy is completely housetrained, but does exhibit some submissive peeing when scared or excited. Also, Murphy is a bit concerned in cars and on car rides. He will drool excessively, but with many outings to really fun places and to our cabin, this is getting better. However, I do think he would do best in a home where he is not consistently asked to endure long car rides.

Finally, due to the COVID-19 restrictions in Minnesota, Murphy has not spent much time by himself at home. While he does great crated to sleep every night in our room, he barks continuously if crated during the day.

We have left him gated in smaller areas of the home for various periods of time up to 2 hours, and he is just fine, but he may need a bit more work to be home alone for a full work day.

The ideal home for Murphy would be one where:

  • he is not left home for a whole work day
  • there is a younger, playful dog to help him expend his energy
  • his family is committed to long walks and exposure to new environments
  • there are no young children under the age of 8
