Profile

Max came in to RAGOM from China as a part of our international outreach program. Max is a healthy, if overweight, boy. Max loves kids, but given his size and excitable nature, any children in the home should be age 5+. Max has not been observed living with another dog but does play well with dogs in the yard. He can live with the right, dog-savvy cat, but he does have a strong prey drive for small creatures like squirrels and chickens. A physical fence is required to keep Max safe.

Max does really well with baths! We go every 1-2 weeks to keep him smelling great. He gets a little shy around the dryer, but muffling the sound with a towel makes him more comfortable!

Say hello to Max! He's an international rescue from China, thought to be about 2 years old and has settled in wonderfully.

Max is a very happy, laid back dog. He would cuddle and nap all day long if possible. His favorite activities are fetch and walks, but he does get worn out after about 5 blocks.

He has sit and shake down very well, currently working on "lay down". If he is distracted he won't follow commands, you must have his full attention before he obeys.

He was cleared by the vet and doesn't have any health issues, except needing to lose some weight - Max weighs 104 pounds and the vet would like him to get down to around 80 so a good exercise and diet plan are required.

The vet does anticipate he will need his teeth cleaned after adoption, but no urgent intervention is needed.

Max has a strong prey drive and really wants to chase squirrels on walks. For this reason, he requires a physical fence.

Max does wonderfully with my cat inside, and pretty much ignores it, but in the yard he will chase the cat. Whether he can live with a cat most likely will depend on the cat and their behaviors around dogs.

He also had an incident with chickens - and caught one and refused to drop it. The chicken will hopefully recover.

Max loves kids and all the attention they bring; however, due to his size and excitable nature he will knock over small children. A home with children over 5 years old and a training plan in place would be ideal.

Max does wonderfully in public settings. He loves going to dog friendly businesses and will settle down and snooze under the table.

Sometimes when approached from behind or the side he will growl and bark. This has happened only with men, but he did growl and bark at a child who approached him this way as well.

I think he would benefit greatly from formal classes with a trainer that could provide coaching as to why he does this and what to do for him to make him feel more safe when meeting new people.

Max will make a wonderful companion for someone that is committed to providing him a safe place to live, tons of love and attention and working with his fears.
