Louie, now Walter, is home with his fur sister Willow and having fun playing and napping together.
His mom and dad will continue his physical therapy to help him learn to walk better on his left leg.
I will miss his happy, silly puppy antics and of course all the puppy kisses!

It has been almost two weeks since Louie’s surgery and he is doing fantastic!
Dr. Razz is amazing. This is what she said about the surgery: “His bones were all fine; it was the muscles that were born crazy. They were pulling his bones into the wrong places.”
His ankle, knee, and hip popped back into proper alignment when she released the muscles and ligaments. He was in a cast for a week, and now we are doing physical therapy several times a day. He likes the heat therapy and the massaging, but the bending, not so much…
It is going to take quite some time for his leg (and his brain) to learn how to move properly, but he is a trooper! His tail is still wagging constantly.
Thank you for checking in and for all your “pawsitive thoughts.”

Louie is doing fabulous! He loves, loves being outside—rain, shine or snow! We do a couple laps around the outside of the house every hour and a half or so during the day. He potties right away when we go out… just a few misses and it was my fault for not watching the clock.
He lays next to me in my office while I work and likes it when “we” take outdoor breaks. He usually goes to bed (in his kennel) at 10:00 when I go to bed, and gets up between 5:00 and 6:30.
He still likes to bite, bite, bite but is listening more to “NO.” When he gets too “bitey” I lift him up and lay him on my lap on his back and rub his tummy to calm him down. He loves belly rubs.
We have a plan! On March 25 he will have surgery on his leg. The surgeon will see what, if anything, she can do to help him. I will update after his surgery. Keep your paws crossed!
Louie is now open for applications!

Louie is a 12-week-old Standard Goldendoodle. He came to us last month from a commercial breeder. He is a very happy boy who has a lame rear leg. He gets around really well inside—runs and plays and rough houses with his brother.
He has seen a surgeon who thinks the issue with the leg was probably from birth. His quadricep muscle atrophied and he can’t bend his knee. He swings his leg from his hip. We are exploring some options, so Louie is not available right now. But soon!
He is “mostly” potty pad trained! He sleeps all night in a kennel with no accidents. Louie loves to give kisses and cuddles and likes to sleep on my feet. And he loves naps! We have not tried stairs or met cats yet.
Louie enjoys kids and other dogs. Because he will be having surgery on his leg, children in his home should be at least 5 years old and understand that he may have issues with the leg.
A physical fence is optional as long as his family has a plan to keep him safe and see that he gets the exercise he needs.
We just started going outside this week and HE LOVES it—plays in the snow and runs around exploring everything. I wrap his leg and foot because he drags it sometimes, and the ground is not smooth like the indoor floors.
