Hallie has been having a GReat summer so far. She is loving the nice weather, although I think she would be okay if it were not so darn hot every day.
She enjoys having the freedom to run in the fenced back yard and when she does not think any of the humans are watching, she will even do some zoomies. I think her favorite thing to do is to roll in the early morning wet grass from the sprinklers overnight. She comes back in the house looking like she went through the sprinklers herself.
Hallie has been making really good progress learning to trust her humans. She now sleeps on the floor in front of her foster parents' bed instead of her kennel at night.
Hallie has also started to take treats from our hands. They have to be pretty enticing, though. Hotdogs work every time! Carrots, surprisingly, not so much.
Probably the most exciting thing to foster mom and dad, though, is that Hallie will now come up to us when we are sitting around and let us pet her on the head. This made us so happy. and we are just waiting for the day we get the Golden nudge from her.
Summers are a busy time for Hallie's foster family, so one of the things we like to do is go relax at the lake when we are able. We were excited to take Hallie on her first weekend getaway to the lake a couple of weekends ago. Slow introductions were made to several family members, including some younger children. Hallie did wonderfully with everyone and was very well behaved.
Hallie did a lot of people watching that weekend at the lake. She was also even brave enough to go on the dock and sit. While I don’t know if Hallie will ever go swimming, I think she did enjoy her time at the lake.
While I know it is going to take time to get Hallie to trust humans and let us love on her like we do our own dogs, we are very happy with the progress this sweet girl is making. Hallie's future family will need to be very patient and continue to let Hallie learn to trust us humans at her own pace. She will need to time to grow comfortable in any new home and may never be a Velcro dog. She is, however, very gently and sweet with those dark brown eyes that just make your melt when she looks at you.

Greetings from Hallie's foster mom. You may have noticed it has been a while since I have done an update on our girl Hallie. Due to Hallie's background, we have been taking things pretty slow here at her foster home. Hallie continues to make baby steps in her new life, but she is still very hesitant at times. Despite being afraid of most new things, she is slowly settling in and becoming more and more comfortable in her new routine.
When Hallie first came into our home, she would rarely leave her kennel. Hallie now spends her days outside of her kennel when we are home. She lays around with the other dogs and is feeling much more at home. Every once in a while, Hallie will even show interest in the dog toys laying around and play with them like a normal dog despite never having had them to play before.
Hallie still eats separately from the other dogs. She is not comfortable with humans watching her, so we continue to allow her space during her meals. Although she will stop eating if we come near her, she has never shown any guarding or aggression toward us.
With the nicer weather upon us, we have started taking Hallie on walks with us and our two resident dogs. She is somewhat frightened of her harness, but nonetheless allows us to gently place it on her and, with a little bit of coaxing, will go for a walk. She does quite well on a leash and does not pull at all. She wants to walk behind us, so we are working on her walking with the pack or next to me as we walk.
One of the main things we have learned about Hallie is that she is a very sweet and special girl who will require a family with a lot of patience. Hallie will take time to warm up to any new family, and it will not happen overnight. Hallie is not your typical Golden who nudges and wants to be near her people. While we haven't seen these Golden traits in Hallie yet, we hope to one day. In the meantime, we will continue to provide her with a loving and safe home.

Hallie is a 5 year-old female Golden Retriever who came into our care from a commercial breeding situation. Hallie has been in our home for just over a week now and is slowly settling in with the family. She has two large-breed foster sisters who have been helping her acclimate to her new home.
Due to Hallie's upbringing, she frightens easily from noises she is not familiar with and is fearful of new situations. During her first week with us, Hallie has kept to herself in her kennel most of the time, just taking in all the new sights and sounds of living in a real home. Hallie does not eat or drink while the other dogs or human family are near her, so she also eats her meals in her kennel at this time.
Hallie is unfortunately fearful of her human foster mom and dad right now. When it's time to go outside, we cannot be near the door she has to go out of to get to the yard, or she will not go out. She will also stay on the opposite side of the yard as us right now. We have some work to do to earn back Hallie's trust of humans.
Despite Hallie's fear, she has shown a little of her playful side. She will take laps around the yard and follows the other dogs around checking things out. We even saw her give a play bow to our resident Golden, who was too busy hunting for rabbits to be bothered to play at the time.
Hallie has shown no aggression towards other dogs with toys, food, or attention, and has only been mild-mannered since her arrival. She lets me clean her ears and put drops in them without problem. I have also brushed her once, which she also tolerated very well.
While Hallie isn't ready to fully trust us humans, we have seen tiny improvements throughout the week. While I was in my office working, she did come and sit by the door one day, and then the next day, she came even further into the room and actually laid down to be with the other dogs. This was huge for Hallie and very exciting for me to see.
Because of Hallie's background, she will need to be in a home with children 13 or older, or no children at all. Hallie will also need another large dog in her forever home who can continue to show her what it's like to be a dog in a loving home. She will need a patient family who understands that it will take time for her to trust her new family. She will also need a fenced-in yard where she can run and play and know she is safe.
