Beckham (Woody 05-122)

Profile

Woody is here and what a delightful little boy he is – however, big feet, so might not be a little boy for long. Taffy (05-095) was so excited to see him that he barely got a chance to sniff the yard before she was jumping all over him. My girlfriend was over with her three dogs, and Woody met her three, plus my three, plus Taffy without a problem. We had a doggy party and everyone got along beautifully. Woody is about 4-1/2 months old and was turned in by a breeder that is getting out of the business. Woody came to RAGOM with his brother, Reggie (05-121) and mom, Fancy (05-120). He is beautiful!!! And now that he has had a bath, he smells good too. Woody is a friendly boy, a little unsure of a few things, like steps, but loves to be petted. He slept quietly through the night in a crate in the bedroom with us and Taffy. We’ll be scheduling a vet appointment for later this week.

Beckham was diagnosed in May with Histiocytic Sarcoma, a fairly rare and very aggressive form of cancer. Our family was devastated. Although there is no known cure for this type of cancer we did two rounds of chemotherapy in the hopes that we could lessen his discomfort and keep him happy for as long as possible. We had two more wonderful months with him but sadly said goodbye last week - the loss is still so unbearable; he hadn't even celebrated his 7th birthday.

We will miss Beck more than words can express. He was our first "baby" and as such was a great big brother to our daughter, now 3 years old, and our son, only 7 weeks old. I had imagined our children growing up with him as their companion; it is so hard for me to believe that he won't be here to watch them get on the bus for the first time or have their first sleep over.

Beckham was my constant companion, my husband's best friend, our daughter's favorite tag partner and the kitties favorite bath-giver. He will always have a very special place in our hearts as we remember all the wonderful times we had over the years. Thank you RAGOM for allowing us to share our lives with this amazing, sweet boy.

Just an update on how our RAGOM boy, Beckham (formerly Woody) is doing. He continues to be the most understanding and happy of dogs. We frequent the off leash dog park near us, going at least 6 times a week, and he just loves it! Since we don't have a fenced yard it is his only time to be off leash and he is so good about staying near us and coming when called. He is a favorite among other visitors to the park because he plays very well with all other dogs and just loves every human he meets! We are still in obedience, and he continues to do well. We will start agility very soon and I am hoping that he enjoys it as he could really use that as an outlet for all his energy! As a 13 month old puppy, he has boundless energy, but is so good about containing that when we are in the house or around our young nieces and nephews. We are still very much in love with him and he is just another member of the family! We can't thank RAGOM enough for helping us find him because he is now such a big part of our lives! Beckham and I are still volunteering, doing at least 1 home visit a week, in the hopes that we can help other families find their soul mates just as we have. I attached our most recent photo that we used for our Christmas cards this year.

Thanks again,

Hi! I just thought we should update you on how Beckham (formerly known as Woody) is doing. We love him to pieces and can't say enough good things about him. He immediately took to having two little kitties around and hasn't bothered them (much). He is the most mild dog for his age, only 7 months. He rarely does anything deserving of a firm word and he is learning new things everyday. We have been taking him to obedience weekly and I am pretty sure he will graduate with top honors! He now responds to sit, down, stand, stay, heel, and come! He also recently learned to let us know when he needs to go outside by ringing a bell!! Everyone who comes over is so impressed with him and besides that, he is just so darned cute! We want to thank everyone at RAGOM for bringing Beckham into your organization and especially for finding us worthy of this wonderful dog. He has joined the ranks of our fur children and we loved RAGOM so much that we have started volunteering! Beckham completed his first home visit last week and the family just loved him, he was so well behaved! Thanks not only to RAGOM but to Konnie, Beckham's foster and the woman who ultimately gave us the opportunity to have this wonderful animal in our lives. I have attached a few photos to show what a part of our life he has become. We had professional photos taken for our upcoming wedding and Beckham, being our child, came with to have his picture taken too :)
