10/24/05: Kodi, short for Kodiak, arrived this weekend. What an awesome pet he will make for some wonderful family. Kodi just turned eleven months old. Wouldn't finding his perfect forever home make an awesome first birthday present???

Kodi was turned into RAGOM because he has allergies and his family just couldn't afford his medicine. One thing that I have started with him is that I changed his food. My one Golden is allergic to corn products so I have started to switch Kodi to this food too as his present food not only contained corn but corn meal. We will see if that helps his skin rashes some, it will take a bit of time to see if that helps. Kodi goes to the vet tomorrow and we will have a better idea of things to try after that. I am also going to have him check his thyroid level. Kodi is showing the same symptoms that my other Golden did when he was diagnosed, weight gain and very thin, fine hair on his chest. More about his medical situation in a few days as we talk with the vet tomorrow, though he is already up to date on all his shots, micro chipped, and neutered.

Kodi shows the typical puppy playfulness and curiosity about everything. I have tripped over him a number of times because he needs to be right next to me - he loves to be right next to you all the time. He loves to sit and lean into you for belly rubs, in fact he would rather roll over in your lap so that you can give him better belly rubs! His curiosity got him a 'warmed' up nose last night - I was cooking and he had to sniff the inside of the oven door! No harm done but he has figured out to stay away from that door when it is down. Some of his favorite toys are tennis balls and rope bones.

Even though he is a typical puppy he has been to obedience class and knows a lot of commands such as sit, stay, down, heel, and go to bed. Kodi is house trained, we had one accident when he first got home but that was my fault, he was letting me know he had to go out but I didn't catch on to his signals in time. He loves to go for car rides too, he will sit in the passenger seat with you if given the chance! Since Kodi is still very much a puppy, he sleeps in his crate at night and during the day while I am at work.

From Charlie's (formerly known as Kodi) forever family...

Good afternoon RAGOM folks,

Just wanted to send updated photos of my very very best pals!

I adopted Harvey [FKA Harvest] five years ago and he continues to be my Knight in Golden Armor. I don't know what I would do without him. When Harvey's big sister passed away, he went into a deep depression. He hid under the bed for weeks. But can you blame him? He was only a year old. So I jumped into action and started the process of adopting again. Harvey and I were led to Charlie [FKA Kodi ] at a Rochester Petco meet and greet. I didn't think I'd take him home, just wanted to see how Harvey would take to another dog ... and boy did they take to each other. Charlie just celebrated his 5th birthday on Saturday. The two have been brothers for four years. [They're both going grey. My last golden wasn't around long enough to go grey in the face so I'm so happy to witness this part of their journey.]

They have been my best friends, my confidants, my workout partners, my nightly comedians, my snuggle buddies, my cooking partners ... and so much more. I can't thank RAGOM enough bringing these two golden spirits into my life!

I was able to take advantage of the giveMN.org donation day on the 17th [I think that was the day] ... yeah!

Take care wonderful RAGOM volunteers.
