Hawkeye is back!! We are all enjoying getting reacquainted. Hawkeye was just a bit too energetic for his adopted family's senior dog and they felt it would be better for Lady to remain an only dog or have a senior doggie friend, so with heavy hearts, Hawkeye's adopted family decided to let him come back into RAGOM. We welcomed him back with open arms, as he is just a great addition to our household. This guy with the little bit of something non-Golden which gives his tail some curl and fluff, deserves to find a forever home soon so that he can get on with his life.

Dear RAGOM, Fourteen years ago, I adopted Hawkeye from RAGOM. He was a wonderful dog, a member of our family, beloved by all. He died December 10, 2019. He is dearly missed.

Hawkeye continues to be a great house guest and playmate for Lacy. They are good buddies as you can see by the picture (Hawkeye is the darker).
Since our last update, Hawkeye has been able to play with the 9 year old neighbor boy and they both had a great time. I think Hawkeye would be great with kids that can take some rough and tumble play. Hawkeye is very kind hearted, but also has some exuberant puppy in him so if he goes to a family with kids, they would have to be ready for anything! It was fun to see that side of him, because with the two of us, he is just a mellow guy.
We haven't been down to the lake this week because it's too cold, but he was pretty intrigued with it when we did. I think it was his first time in a lake. He followed Lacy in the first time and waded a bit. The second time, there were big waves and he really checked them out, but did venture in.
Hawkeye loves his walks and is quite good on the flexi leash. He is always eager to go, but is always ready to go back in the house. He likes it here - plenty of food, plenty of attention...it's great for him to be in a house again after being a stray and then living in a kennel for a few weeks. He's an appreciative guy.
Hawkeye is crate trained and sleeps there at night and often goes in on his own just to snooze. Otherwise he has free roam and has been fine. He is all in all a great guy.

Original Initial Bio:
What a great dog!!! Yesterday, Hawkeye came to stay with us in Alexandria. He rode with me for an hour, and I wondered if he really was in the back of my sport utility vehicle because he did not make a peep!
Hawkeye was a stray from - you guessed it - IOWA. He spent almost three weeks at a Humane Society down there before coming into RAGOM. He is such a nice dog and so appreciative of the attention he is getting. I would love to keep this sweet guy and so would two-year-old resident dog Lacy, because he is a perfect housemate for her. They play so nicely together - very gentle play.
Most of the day, Hawkeye is just content to be around Lacy, any ball and me. He loves to retrieve and always brings it right back to the general vicinity. I think he must be a quick learner because it seems he improved a lot since the 11/4 write up from the visitor he had while in boarding!
Hawkeye is just 1 1/2, and really has a puppy side too. He can get very excited and bouncy, especially with new people or places. He just loved everyone at the vet's office today, and was working so hard to get pets and belly rubs, that the vet did part of the exam while Hawkeye was on his back getting belly rubs from the assistant!
He thought it was a great place... and they thought he was a great dog. Hawkeye weighed in at 57 pounds. He is very skinny and I will be working on raising his weight.
Hawkeye has the basics of come, sit, stay, lie down, walking with a Gentle Leader and retrieving. He has already mastered unconditional love and devotion. So, if you are looking for a good dog that could become a great dog with a little work, Hawkeye is the dog for you. Better hurry before I can't let him go!
