Welcome to Mochi's web page. Mochi is a one year old Golden Doodle, whose name means, "sweet rice cake". With his white, rice colored curls and sweet personality, Mochi is well named. He is a typical adolescent dog - very active and moving most of the time.
Mochi would love to spend his days running, chasing tennis balls, trying to play tug of war with the leash, and munching on treats. He is house trained, kennel trained, and responds well to several basic commands.
Mochi had a very hard time during his surrender. He was absolutely terrified of being taken from his home, put into a strange car, and driven away. His reaction was to refuse to leave the safety of the travel kennel. He did a lot of barking and growling those first few hours.
His foster home realized he was not the right fit for them, so he was transported to boarding. After several hours, he was coaxed out of the kennel. His fear-based behavior continued with strangers during the first week in boarding. We had concerns about Mochi's future during that first week.
Luckily for Mochi (and for his new family), he has overcome his initial behavior. Mochi the happy, bouncy, loveable, adorable dog we now know overcame his fear! He decided he was safe and life, even in boarding, was a very good time. Every day Mochi gets happier.
He loves all the employees who work with him in boarding. He loves the foster volunteers who come to walk him and interact by showing him affection. He is curious, appropriate, and just a pleasure to have around.
Mochi seems fine with other dogs he encounters, although so far he has not had much interaction with them because of the boarding environment and protocols.
Due to the behavior he showed in the beginning, Mochi needs a family with dog experience - an energetic, adult family who enjoys walking, exploring and learning about what Mochi needs and wants. Mochi needs training. He also needs a lot of attention, gentle hands, and love.
Mochi's first year was spent living with a family who worked outside the home. which should be acceptable with his adoptive family. He will be ok alone at times. Yet, when his family is not working, Mochi needs to be socialized, trained, and exercised.
A single family home would be the best fit for Mochi, so no living space with shared walls. Mochi needs his confidence built up. He needs structure and positive training in order to grow from adolescence into a well mannered adult dog.
Mochi is rough around the edges. He can be adorable when treated well. He will not be so adorable if his adoptive family does not continue to work on his quirks. He has fears that will only subside when he's provided the security and leadership to become the awesome dog that is at his core.
Mochi requires work and dog skills in order to rise to his potential.
