** WAITING LIST **
November 17, 2009: Welcome to RAGOM Molly! Molly is a young (2 – 3 years old) beautiful female Golden Retriever. Molly was found in small rural Minnesota town. She had been “dropped” at the end of a driveway out in the country. The family that found her already had several dogs and just could not keep her.
Molly came to our home on a Sunday afternoon and has been very busy since. We went to the vet for a wellness exam and micro-chipping. Molly weighed in at 80 pounds, is in good health and is up-to-date on her vaccinations. She has met our resident Golden’s and our cat, had a bath, had her ears cleaned and discovered lots of fun toys to play with. As we have been getting to know Molly, here is what we’ve learned so far:
- Our little Miss Molly was hit by a car approximately 3 -4 weeks ago. She is still a bit tender in her rear left leg, but is doing well and is in good spirits. She is running and playing with our resident dogs just fine.
- We think Molly is spayed, however, we cannot confirm it. Molly needs a home with people who will watch her closely for the next 6 months or so to make sure she does not go into heat.
- Molly is house-trained; she will stand by the door when she needs to go out. She has not had any accidents in our house.
- Molly crates well with a treat, without a treat she does not want to go in and needs coaxing. We have crated Molly for short periods and only occasionally. When crated recently she barked and howled a little.
- Molly knows several commands; sit, down, come and no; and she is fairly consistent in obeying commands. Molly is a dog that wants to please, and just be with her people. Molly is a smart girl, with a very sweet personality. That said, she is young and needs a home with structure, routine and lots of loving. She would benefit greatly from obedience school, and it will help with the bonding process in her new furever home.
- Molly likes other dogs (we have 2 resident Golden’s here) and is very enthusiastic about playing. She would do well in a home with another dog, but we don’t think she has to have another dog in the home. She does LOVES toys; she LOVES to chew on them. Molly seems to understand that she can only chew on toys, rawhides, etc. She has not chewed on anything she is not suppose to since she has been with us.
- Molly does not exhibit any resource guarding. In fact, she plays with and shares toys well. She has been playing tug o’ war with our McKenna often. She hasn’t exhibited any issues with guarding food either.
- Molly has discovered our resident cat and wants to play with him. Unfortunately for Molly, the cat is not interested in her. This has not discouraged Molly one bit, and she is always on the lookout for our Mr. Tibbles. She has chased him a couple of times, but that’s as far as it has gone.
- Molly is a very friendly dog who greets people enthusiastically. She is such a sweet dog with an awesome disposition. She freely gives “kisses” whether you need them or not! Molly is somewhat demanding when it comes to attention and will nudge us under our arm to get us to pet her. She likes to be close to us and follows us around the house. That said, she is often content to lay on the floor while in the same room with us and just chill. Her favorite room is the kitchen; food AND people!
- Molly had not been “kid” tested yet. She has not been around small children here, only teenagers. We will be working on finding out how she is with small children.
- We do not have a fence at our home, so Molly is either on a leash or tie-out when outside. She is fine on the tie-out, but it is really too soon to know if she needs a fence or not. We’ll keep evaluating this.
- Molly is sleeping on our son’s bed at night. She really seems to enjoy sleeping on a bed!
Molly is a wonderful dog, sweet, loving little lady. Please contact your placement advisor if you are interested!
