Peyton 09-018

We would like you to meet Peyton. She is a beautiful dark red girl who came to us very shy and very scared. She is about six months old and up until now had lived in a barn with a pig!! So our house is a very big and scary place!!

The first 24 hours she layed in her crate and would not move. We had to carry her outside to go potty. We still need to carry her down the stairs, but will come up the stairs with a little help. Peyton loves to be outside and acts like a puppy should, but once she is in the house she likes to find the nearest corner. When she feels comfortable she will start to explore, and did find a dog bed to rest on.

Peyton has found her forever home. She has 2 fur brothers to play with, and a family that has already fallen madly in love with her. She has waited a long time for this day, and I know that the wait was well worth it. Peyton now knows what having a family of her very own feels like. She is going to be living like a queen, and she deserves every minute of it. We could not be happier for her. She has been here in Rochester with us for about 2 months, and I can say that she progressed daily, into the beautiful, loving girl that she is today. Peyton, you left a large paw print on our hearts, and will be forever in our memories.
We love you pretty girl - have a wonderful life - foster moms Janet and Kim, and foster dads - Dale and Peter.
Here she is with her very own mom and dad and 2 big brothers.

Just a note to let everyone know that Peyton is doing great. She is such a affectionate girl, once she gets to know you. We also found out that she loves to run in the snow. We got about 5 inches here in Rochester on Friday, and she and her foster sisters, and brother had so much fun chasing each other around in it. I, personally was not so excited about it. She attended a meet and greet here in Rochester  for the first time yesterday, and did wonderful. She loves all other dogs, in fact, here she is with her new best friend, Sunshine 09-381, that she just met about an hour before this picture was taken. Enjoy!

Peyton has moved a little south over the last week. She is now being fostered in Rochester, and has the pleasure of playing and learning from her sister. She has been with us for only 4 days, and she has fully adjusted, and bonded with all of our family. She is a wonderful girl. She fit right into our home, and most of all right into our pack. We could not be happier with the progress that we have seen in her. Peyton has been very lucky to have spent the last few months with her previous foster family. They did an excellent job of helping her work thru her fears, and is learning to trust. She came to them in a very sad state, and they have been instrumental in her wonderful progress. We thank them so very much!!

We have been busy taking her to places that she has never been to get her accustomed to going in and out of stores, meeting new people, and just putting the finishing touches on her. She truly is a gem. She loves it here at our house, with the other resident dogs to play with. She has been on many walks with us, and even though she is unsure of where we are going, she handles it very well. She has figured out that it is a great thing to get to go in the car, and is usually the first on to pile in.

Peyton walks great with just a flat collar.
Peyton is fine with cats
Peyton loves other dogs, and she will need to go to a home with at least 1 dog.
Peyton loves to play with toys.
Peyton loves to play with tennis balls, and is great at retrieving, and giving them up for you to throw again.
Peyton is very smart
We are unsure about children, but we will be testing soon.

Here are some pictures of Pretty Peyton, and her foster sisters at play.

Hi all,

Once again we are a little tardy with an update. In the time since we last talked, we have had a computer failure as well as an interested family come to visit. the computer was fixed, but we are sad to say the family passed on Peyton. She is still available for you! This second visit went much much better then the first. Peyton allowed the applicants to pet her and went on a walk with them. In the end, she was still too timid for this family. We totally understand their decision.

Peyton still scares very easily even with us. Any sudden movement will still startle her, but she quickly recovers. We continue to try and introduce her to new people. We have been putting her on the short lead to make the introductions. We find that they go much better if another dog is present.

With school starting, Peyton is in the crate from about 8 to 4. She keeps it very clean and she is very quiet. When she gets out she is ready to play and needs some exercise.

She still loves to play fetch, go for walks, and snuggle on the couch. We have attached some new pictures for your viewing pleasure which show that she still LOVES to be groomed!

Hello followers of Peyton!

Sorry for the delay in her updates, it has been a busy summer; much to Peyton's sha-grin. We have been slowly introducing new people to Peyton. As always, she is very shy and goes to her safe place. We have noticed that if the introduction also has a dog, it has been going a lot better. She will stand off, but sniff in an interested way. Peyton now likes to meet new dogs, quiet ones. The renters next door have two Weimors. She met the younger one with no problems and loves to play chase with her. The older one is a little grouchy and Peyton is keeping her distance.

Peyton has learned to swim. She enjoys racing her foster sister out to the stick/ball/throwing dummy. She has even jumped off the dock four times! She much prefers the land though: a good game of chase and play is much more fun for her.

Peyton recently turned 1 year old. She is still very much the puppy and has taken to sock stealing and shredding. It only seems to happen when she has lots of energy and no outlet: like when it is raining outside. We have been taking her for walks and car rides and all is well in that area. We have given her several baths in the lake and she does not seem to mind. She LOVES to be brushed. The minute she feels it, she just melts on to her back!

Hi to all Peyton followers,

Peyton is learning to do many things. Her favorite is to find dead fish along the shore and have a shore lunch....MMMM. She is starting to get used to the water. We have been working on water retrieves. This last weekend we went on a long car trip. The first part was to go to a HS track meet. The volume of people and the noise was not to her liking; so she spent the evening in the car. She was a good girl. The last part was a trip to the foster grand-parents house for Mother's Day. She did very well meeting their dog, and my parents. She was again shy, but by the time we were ready to leave she had warmed up to all. Peyton did very well in the three hour car ride. She just slept on top of foster sister Hanna. We have been taking many walks on the bike path. When the bikers come up from behind, she does still get spooked; but she is getting better. She still likes to take other people introductions slow, but is starting to warm up quicker.

We have started leaving Peyton out, in our bedroom, while we are gone. She has done a good job and just loves to sleep on our bed. We know that she will make some new family complete! Enjoy the pictures.

Peyton hopes this update finds you all well. She continues to come out of her shell. She loves to go outside and fetch the throwing dummy. Peyton has not had any accidents in the house for over three weeks. She likes to play with our yellow lab, but is shy about meeting other dogs. She is also shy around new people, but will come up to them if they are sitting on the couch.

Peyton has experienced many new things. We purchased a new stuffed animal for her and it has a squeeker in it. She really enjoys this. Before the last snow, Peyton was getting used to walking on grass. When the wind would come up, it would blow the leaves around and Peyton just loved to pounce on them. Also as the water ran down the yard, she would try to stop it by putting her paw in the stream. It was really cute to see her explore these new things.

We go on walks around the block now. We put her on a body harness and a short lead. She is getting used to walking on the asphalt, but many things still spook her. She is much better! At night, we let her sleep on the bed with us. She starts out there, but then moves to her crate. She has run of the house at night, but usually just stays on the bed or in her crate. Peyton has become the perfect foster!

Peyton's perfect home would be one with older children (over 10 years). We think she would be good with cats, but have not tested her. Peyton is good in the car as long as there is a 2nd person; otherwise, she wants to be in your lap. Peyton's idea of a good home is one with a consistent routine. Up at the same time, out at the same time, fed at the same time, and lots of love. Peyton is a snuggler on the couch and loves to be petted. Peyton could go to a home with a resident dog, as long as it was not too dominate. Enjoy the recent pics!

Hi everyone,

Peyton is feeling more comfortable in her foster home. She has been exploring more around the house, venturing into the kitchen and sniffing around. She is also more comfortable walking on the laminate flooring. Peyton will now follow the resident around the table and play chase.

When the snow was melting the other day, it created a stream that ran down the drive way, Peyton noticed it and could not figure out how it worked. She put her paw in the water and pulled it back, then followed the stream a little bit, and put her paw in it again! It was funny to watch.

Peyton loves to carry items in her mouth, typical golden. Outside she will grab the first thing she can, which is usually her lead, as seen in the picture. Then she prances around the yard like a show dog!!

Peyton is a real sweetheart, and loves to cuddle. When you sit on the couch she will come and sit right beside you and lay her head in your lap. Sometimes she thinks she is a lap dog and will try to sit with you in a chair.

We have seen many ups and downs for your girl in the last several weeks. One thing is for sure: A daily ritual is a must. We are now used to getting up and going outside to go to the bathroom. We have also started to have an idea of what her 'potty' body language is like. From this, we have notice a very drastic decrease in accidents in the house.

During the day when we are at home Peyton has the run of the house. She chooses to be by us unless we are on some flooring surface that does not allow for traction (tile, laminate, vinyl, etc.). In those cases, she will sit and whine or bark until we come to see her.

Peyton is starting to give kisses; not many, but a few here and there. She really likes belly rubs and will seek them out from all who will provide them. Peyton is still very shy. My son (17yo) recently had seven friends over for videos and such. They were not a loud group, but Peyton stayed in her crate. The crate is her safe place and she knows the door is always open. Even one or two new people can be too much and she will go to one of her safe places.

Peyton is still scared of many things: the vacuum, aerosol spray cans, her reflection in the window, etc. We are making progress however! She no longer runs from us as we enter a room. She comes up to us and wants to be petted. She will now jump up on the bed and take naps with us and she is learning what 'no' means. She still does not like to be pulled on the lead. She still does not like to go for walks around the block or on the frozen lake. We are making tremendous progress on the 'sit' command. She knows that when we come in from outside, that she must wait allows us to wipe her paws off. We feel that this is a big milestone for her. When Peyton is outside she loves to have sticks in her mouth. In the house, she really enjoys chewing on the Nylabone. We do giver her raw-hide bones and she likes those as well.

Peyton recently went to the vet and got up-to-date on her shots, spayed, and micro-chipped. Peyton does not like going to new places yet, but does ride in the car well. She continues to grow and will make a fine pup to adopt; in time. For now, we do not feel she is ready for adoption and we cannot tell you what her ideal home would be: but do know this; when you look into her deep brown eyes your heart will immediately be captured by her sweet soul! Enjoy the new pictures!

Foster Dad is doing the update today......In the last week we have seen lots of extremes: both in the temperature and the disposition of our foster Peyton. As mentioned before, Peyton came to us not knowing a single thing. Well we are now at the other extreme. She is now able to go through doors (most of them), go up and down steps (as long as they are lit) and will eat out of a bowl. Lots of big steps for our little girl! She will even cross the "Kitchen laminate floor of doom" as long as we put non-stick rugs as stepping-stones for her. We are very proud of the progress she has made.

Now we need to move on to the "What it is like to be a dog" phase. This is a little tougher. We are trying to house train her and sometimes it can be a struggle. Since she has grown accustom to the warm blankets and pillows and she does not want to go out in this bitter cold for very long. This has been our challenge as of late. However we have made progress: she sleeps in a crate at night and while we are at work.  She is starting to learn come.  After she comes inside she lets us dry her paws off, and she is growing use to being on the lead.

She has the curiosity of a puppy, but still the great fear of the unknown. Many things still scare her and with time, she will get over those as well; like the song says "take three steps forward and then two steps back" that is the way it is with Peyton. When we sit on the floor or in one of her safe places, she is a HUGE snuggle bug! We have even reached the point where she will roll on to her back and let us rub her belly....until someone walks into the room and then off to the 'safe place'.

Right now, it is hard to say what Peyton's forever home should look like because it changes almost daily. We are pretty sure that she should go to a home with no young children. Over the age of 10 should be fine. We do not know how she is around cats. She gets along well with our dog, but have not yet met any others. More later as this caterpillar turns into a butterfly.
