Rudy 11-054

Profile
Welcome Rudy! What a handsome, sweet boy! He has beautiful striking hazel eyes. Rudy was surrendered to RAGOM from the Humane Society in South Dakota. His owner surrendered Rudy and his brother Goldie on 2/5/11. The reason was too many dogs at home. Due to over crowding at the HS they moved Rudy to boarding on 2/11/11. Rudy has been with our family since Monday, 2/28/11.
The surrendering owner said Rudy just turned 1 year old in February. He lived outdoors on a farm and was not up to date with his vaccinations or neutered. We took care of the vaccinations and he is now up to date as of 2/15/11. He was also neutered yesterday 2/28/11. Everything went perfect. The Vet in Prior Lake also checked his ears and tongue as he had slight infections when he arrived on 2/5/11. He is in perfect health. Rudy is a blonde Golden Retriever with a mix of some kind of other love breed. His eyes are beautiful, a striking hazel/gold color. The other thing you notice first about Rudy is his beautiful soft, thick coat. I'm sure this kept him warm in the barn but does hide his thin tall frame. Rudy weighed in at 57 pounds. The Vet suggested his ideal weight should be at least 65 pounds. This was the only concern from his health report. Since he was just neutered yesterday, we are slowly starting to give him food. He is a very polite eater and takes his treats very gentle. And very clean with his water bowl. You wouldn't know looking at him today that he had surgery.
Rudy loves to look out the windows at home and be outside. We take 3 walks a day. He doesn't pull on his leash. During our walks I see him look up in the trees at birds and squirrels. I would assume he has a good prey drive but not one that would cause a problem as he doesn't pull on the leash. We allow him free roam of the house. No accidents or chewing inside. At the shelter and humane society he also kept his kennel clean.
Rudy's personality is coming out a little more today. He is now carrying stuffed animals around and retrieving a little. We need to take it easy due to his procedure. We do have a resident dog at home. No aggression has been shown from Rudy at all. He just wags his tail and tries to play. Our girls 10 and 12 love to lay down with him and rub his belly. He is really a gentle boy. Maybe twice he has jumped up on me but we use the command off and place his front legs on the ground. Same with the furniture. He has tried to lay on the couch with us. We try to keep him off this piece of furniture and direct him to a different chair or dog bed just for him.
Rudy is really a good boy. He follows me around all day long with his tail wagging. We just remind ourselves that he is a still a puppy and has probably never been in a home. A funny thing he does is look at himself in the mirror and smile. He is so smart and already learning new commands. He knows his name really well and responds to come and sit. I have caught him with his paws on the counter but I'm sure he is just curious.
Rudy has spent too much time behind "bars". Please come meet him. He is so smart and gentle.
