Mandy 07-652

Profile

Mandy arrived at my home from Sioux City, Iowa on Monday. She was sooo hungry and nervous about her new situation, being found roaming the streets of Iowa with her two male companions, narrowly avoiding euthanasia because there was no room in the inn, being in heat, driving in a car with strangers for an entire day and ending up at the vet for examination. She needed a lot of reassurance and closeness the first 24 hours, but the second 24 hours she has really opened up, settled in, plays well with others (loves our golden) and listens. She is very eager to please, knows sit and is learning 'come'. She hasn't had an accident in the house and quickly takes care of business outside. She does need to work on not pulling on the leash, but seems to learn quickly, so I'm sure this won't be a steep learning curve for her.

The vet believes she is about 1.5-2 years old and is in good health besides being a little starved for food. She is about 44 lbs and is fine boned with a beautiful reddish/gold, silky, short coat, a flesh-colored nose and hazel eyes.

She is really a gorgeous and loving girl. I don't believe she has ever been inside, since she still crouches around in new rooms and is frightened by the fireplace, toilet, washer and dryer - even the fridge, but she is becoming more comfortable as time goes by and she begins to feel more safe and loved. She will be spayed as soon as we can determine whether she is coming out of or going into heat. We have to wait 7-10 days after her heat cycle to spay her. I have not seen any aggression from her. She has been around three resident dogs and her two Sioux City buds and just loves to play and wears that big golden smile!

Mandy is recovering nicely from her spay. She seems so relieved and we hope that she is realizing that she can truly start her golden life now that she will never have to be a mommy. She was a little slow and sore the day after we brought her home, but now we have to be sure to keep her inactive because she wants to play with Lucy.

Our neighbor came over today to say hi to Mandy. She brought her 18 month old daughter and it was so special to see how Mandy behaved. She was so gentle with the little girl. She gave her a soft kiss and just wanted to meet her and sniff her. The little girl is just learning how to talk and she was able to somewhat say 'Lay down' to Mandy when they were both sitting on the dog bed. Mandy softly laid down next to Addison and Addison's mom nearly melted. She was in awe at how gentle Mandy is. She is astonished no one has adopted Mandy yet.

We have been taking Mandy out on a leash to do her business so she doesn't dart around and get too wild. She has to take it easy for a week. Mandy pulls a bit on the leash, but she listens very well and slows down when you tell her to.

We know Mandy is not a pure bred Golden. We know she has a coat that resembles more of a Lab in length. However, I promise you this girl has the softest and most gentle soul ever. She is so kind and easy going. She loves to cuddle and hang out with you.

Mandy has been accident free for a few weeks now and she even goes to the door now to tell us she has to go out. We are convinced she is now fully housetrained.

She is awesome in the car and loves rides.

She is looking for a home that will love her as much as she will love. She is looking for a home with a fenced in yard. She would do fine as the only dog, but would probably like a playmate. I think she can learn to live with cats, but it will need to be monitored at first. She is not aggressive with our cats, just curious about them.

If you'd like to meet Mandy and experience all her love, email placement at placementatragom [dot] org to set it up. She looks forward to meeting everyone.

Thank you for following her adventures.

Hi there

Look into my eyes

Well, Christmas is almost upon us and we have already had the wonderful gift of being able to foster Mandy so far. She is such a delight to have around and has such a warm, loving spirit and truly appreciates having a warm home to rest her head and her paws.

She had a couple accidents in the house, but it was our fault for not noticing her signals to go outside. She goes every time we let her out and give her lots of praise after and we are 95% convinced she is house trained.

She still sleeps in her kennel at night and is quiet all night until she hears us get up in the morning. Then she wants to join in the fun and come be with us upstairs as we get ready for work.

The other night we were watching TV and Mandy was on the couch sleeping next to me and she was dreaming. She was running in her dream so her feet were pitter-pattering back and forth and then she was sort of dream-growling and barking and it was sooooo cute to watch and gave us a good chuckle. She slept right thru it all.

We took Lucy and Mandy to daycare yesterday and she did great with all the other dogs. She has no aggression and also does great with kids.

Mandy has a shorter coat, but it is soooo soft. She loves to cuddle and be pet and just wants to get as much love as she can.

We still feel a home with a fenced in yard and no cats would be ideal for her.

We will be fostering her at least until Jan 3rd when we take her in to be spayed (if she is not pregnant). If she is not pregnant and they are able to spay her, she will be available for adoption to a very, very lucky home shortly after that.

Please let placement know at placementatragom [dot] org know if you'd like to meet this precious girl. I know you will fall in love with her the moment you see her.

Thank you for following her adventures. Mandy wishes all her fans a very Merry Christmas.

We've had Mandy a week and a half now. She has been such a joy to have here. She is so sweet and cuddly. Yesterday Mandy was looking to cuddle with someone and she chose Lucy so they laid across each other and napped together. This is the first time we've had a foster that cuddled with Lucy so it was fun to see.

She is doing great with all of her behaviors. We are pretty convinced she is potty trained and she goes into her kennel at night and while we are gone. She does not make a sound all night.

Mandy is scheduled to be spayed on Jan 3rd. Since she was coming out of her heat cycle when we took her in, she has to wait a bit. There is a slim chance she is pregnant from before she came into RAGOM's care or that she is going thru a false pregnancy. The vet will know for sure when we bring her in on 1/3. Don't let this keep you from meeting Mandy. I guarantee you she will melt your heart when you see her and experience her personality.

We are still hoping to find a forever home with a fenced in yard and no cats. She has gotten better with our cats, but still chases them if they run.

Mandy may not look totally like a golden retriever, but she has a golden heart and a golden soul. I can't say enough about how sweet and gentle and kind she is.

I also think she'd make a good hunting dog. She seems to have that instinct about her.

Please placementatragom [dot] org (email placement) if you'd like to meet this fantastic girl and give her the ultimate Christmas gift.

Mandy has been with us for 4 days now and we have learned alot about her already. She is a very sweet, gentle, inquisitive girl who loves to cuddle. We took her to the vet of Friday and she got a clean bill of health. The vet thought she was closer to 1 year old and was amazed at how calm and mellow and well behaved she is. She will be spayed in 3 weeks since she is just coming out of heat. She is a petite little girl at 48lbs and could gain a few more, but the vet said she is pretty much full grown.

What we've learned:

  • Likes Children
  • Does not like cats, but we are working on this with her
  • Respects baby gates
  • Seems to be completely houstrained, but we will keep an eye on her for a bit longer
  • Does great on car rides
  • Sleeps quietly in her crate overnight and spends her time there when we are gone
  • Does great with other dogs
  • Could use a fenced in yard at her adoptive home since she was once a wanderer

I can't say enough about how petite and sweet this little Mandy Pants is. She did great at the Petco event yesterday and was ready for a nap on the ride home (see photos).

She likes rawhides and toys and playing with resident Lucy Magoo. Mandy is our 4th foster and our first female. Once Lucy established herself as the alpha everyone has gotten along great.

More to come on this precious girl with the Hazel colored eyes and pink nose....

If you'd like to meet her, let placement know at placementatragom [dot] org

Thank you for reading up on Mandy. She is a happy RAGOM girl now....
