Happy New Year from Snookie and her foster family in Burnsville!
Today is Snookie's eighth day with us and we have found her to be a gentle, loving dog with everyone that has come into our home. She is most certainly a people dog and wants to be where ever we are. If I am in the kitchen, she is there. If we are in the living room watching television, she is there. She's great company! The only place Snookie will not go with me is in the basement. I don't think Snookie knows how to navigate the stairs. Perhaps she never had to use stairs before. The rest of our house is one level. Snookie will not be our first foster dog that had to learn stairs. We will coach her with a yummy treat.
Snookie seeks affection and affirmation. She likes to be petted and really likes to snuggle. This girl is SO affectionate! She obviously has lots of love to give. We walk her on leash at least once per day for 30 minutes. She is still adjusting to the Gentle Leader but likes and needs her walks. She's an eager and happy walking partner.
We had 2 boys over this weekend, aged 10 and 6 and Snookie did well with both of them. Her surrendering family said that she is good with children and I agree.
I now know what Snookie's "smile" is. She was taught to curl her lips into a snarl like "smile". Her previous family did Civil War re-creations and I wonder if Snookie joined in the photo opps. or participated in some way. I have to say that I found it frightening at first but after repeated observations, I know that she does it as a greeting and not in a menacing way at all.
If you are looking for a dog that: wants to be with you, snuggle with you, and be attentive to you, this is your girl.

Snookie went to the vet yesterday. She was a polite, well behaved patient. The vet prescribed an antibiotic for a possible urinary infection. Snookie frequently tries to urinate. Besides that, she is in great health. Eyes, ears, teeth, coat, feet, hips, all in great shape. Hurray, Snookie! The vet, Dr. T, was impressed with her sweet demeanor. She is at her ideal weight of 50 pounds. As you can see, she is a nice size dog. Not too big (which is good because she will climb into your lap if invited) but not too small.
We have not crated her at all these past 2 nights and she has done very well. She stays on her dog bed, which is next to ours, all through out the night. Snookie gets excited when we return home after being away for a time. She wants to jump up to greet us, but we are working on correcting that habit by not petting her until she sits nicely. Snookie does not beg at the table during meal times but rather rests on her dog bed nearby. This girl loves to fetch tennis balls although I have not yet found the right word for her to release them. She also knows the command "stay" as well as "sit" as I mentioned earlier. Someone has obviously spent time training this dog. Snookie is not a barker but will join in when our dogs bark.
Snookie is looking for her forever home. Please contact placementragom [dot] org if you would like to meet this love bug!

Snookie is here in Burnsville at her new foster home. Snookie is so sweet and gentle and fit into our family right away. She's a 3 year old female lab mix with the nicest disposition! She's upbeat and happy. I think she'll be an easy dog to train because she really pays attention to people when they're talking to her. She knows the command "sit" very well and I'm told she can smile. She takes treats gently from my hand and she's not skittish at all. She came from a family that surrendered her because "they had too many dogs". Snookie seems to be housebroken and prefers to be inside with us. She'll go outside to potty but, so far, will come right back in the house. She is very affectionate, likes to snuggle, and enjoys a belly rub like our other 2 dogs. Her shots are up to date, she's spayed, and does not appear to have any health issues. We'll be going to the vet this week to have her looked over. We crated her last night at bedtime and she behaved very well. She met our cat politely with no issues. Her surrendering family said that she's good with children. I can't think of a single problem or issue that this dog has! She went on a walk this morning and pulled a little bit so we'll walk her with a gentle leader. If you would like to meet Snookie, please send an e-mail to placementragom [dot] org.
More to come later as we get to know her better......
