Senior Golden Retrievers

Are you looking for a journey filled with devotion, laughter, gratitude, affection, and special wisdom acquired only with age? Do you want to share your life and your love with a Golden Retriever, but no longer have the time or energy required to keep up with a puppy or "teenager"?

A Reminder of Simple Pleasures

Consider adopting a sweet, sugar-faced senior Golden. In addition to being low maintenance, a senior Golden will remind you daily of life's simple pleasures: a quick nap in the shade of your favorite tree, a dip in the lake on a hot summer day, and a hidden stash of tennis balls.

A senior dog will also remind you to smile often and start every morning with joy in your heart and an appreciation of those you love.

Although your time with a senior dog will probably be less than with a younger Golden, every day you spend together will be its own reward. You won't regret the day you surrendered your heart to a senior Golden. In fact, many adopters of our senior dogs do it again and again.

Great Reasons to Adopt a Senior

Still wondering if you should adopt a RAGOM senior? Review these great reasons to consider these special dogs.

  • Senior Goldens are almost always house-trained. Just show them the door and where to take care of business, or take a few gentle walks. They figure it out in no time. Accidents happen with all dogs, but much less often with mature dogs.
  • Senior dogs won't chew your shoes, clothes, furniture, carpet, or woodwork. They're content to gnaw on a raw bone or rawhide and ignore everything else.
  • You can teach an old dog new tricks! Seniors exhibit great concentration and aren't easily distracted. Therefore, they learn quickly. Unless you have bacon in your pockets, they focus on what you have to say and what you want. And Senior dogs know what "no" means.
  • Senior Goldens settle into new homes easily. They've learned what it takes to get along with people of all ages as well as other pets, and they know how to fit into the pack.
  • Senior dogs are champion lovers. They want nothing more than to be loved, and they return your affection many times over. Somehow they know they've been given a second chance and readily show their gratitude.
  • What You See Is What You Get. Unlike puppies, senior Goldens have already grown into their shape and personality. They're as big as they will get. This is who they are. No surprises.
  • Senior Goldens are instant companions, ready for hiking, car trips, and many other things you like to do. They almost always know how to walk on a leash, ride in a car, and be great travelling buddies. They just want to be with you!
  • Senior dogs allow you time to yourself. They love your companionship, but they don't demand your undivided attention like an energetic young pup. They're content to lay at your feet while you do something else.
  • Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep. They're already accustomed to human schedules and don't generally need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks. They're also champion sleepers, but they might snore!
  • RAGOM seniors are economical. They arrive in your home already spayed or neutered; fully vetted with senior blood work, medical evaluations, and heartworm tests. Also, the adoption fee for a RAGOM senior is less than half that of a puppy. And senior dogs tend not to be the chowhounds that younger dogs are, so you can budget less for food.
  • Adopting a senior Golden is good for you! Helping others is a proven stress reducer, as is an old Golden's silly, sweet, joyful self. All they ask is that you love them and provide them safe shelter in their final years. But don't be surprised if they look at you as if to say, "What took you so long?"
